WATCH: It's Hard To Delay Gratification. Just Ask Cookie Monster
[Source:  NPR]

Ask Cookie Monster to demonstrate self-control? Sounds like the setup to a joke. The blue, furry monster we grew up with was pure id.

But in recent years, Cookie has evolved as Sesame Workshop has sharpened its focus on social and emotional skills. Research shows that at least half a child's success is determined by those skills.

[Source; Disability Scoop]

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Nearly a dozen parents and others told the Columbia Board of Education this week that they favor changing the board policy to allow parents to record the meetings in which their child's special education or disability plan is decided.

The board is expected to make a decision on the issue at its September meeting.

Race, Ethnicity and Exclusionary Discipline Practice
[Source: Science Daily]

Discipline and how it is administered in schools across the US continues to be a hotly debated topic. A new project analyzed how ethnicity and race are associated with school exclusionary discipline practices, which refer to students being removed from school as a form of punishment. [Source: Huffington Post]

Gabriel Muniz may have been born without feet, but that hasn't stopped the 11-year-old soccer wunderkind from honing his skills as a formidable sportsman.
In fact, Muniz, who is from Brazil, is so good at the sport that FC Barcelona has invited the mini soccer ace to join their summer training camp, the BBC reports.
The Spanish La Liga soccer club has offered to fly Muniz to Spain in September, where he'll be able to show off his "fancy footwork" and meet his idol, Barça soccer player Lionel Messi.

Board Books About Summer
[Source:  The Jenny Evolution]

My kids can't be the only ones counting down until summer comes. And, to be honest, I think I'm even ready for the summer to hit more than my own kids!

SLP Corner: Social Dough
by Cindy Meester, MS CCC-SLP

"E" is a first grader in one of our Autism classrooms. She has a lot of great skills but of course social peer relationships can be difficult. I paired her with "J" from her mainstream classroom. It has led to many interesting sessions. I want to share the one from today. This was a spur of the moment idea that worked ..... today.
