Hurricane Relief Efforts

Hurricane relief efforts in NC are being supported through the regional office and Week of Compassion. Evacuees are being housed at Christmount at no charge to them, through Week of Compassion. Monies will also be used for needs in the eastern part of the state. Make checks out to First Christian with Week of Compassion-NC in the memo line. Please be generous.

The regional office is supporting clean up through kits consisting of
-1 gallon buckets with resealable lid
-scouring pads  -rubber gloves
-sponges
-scrub brushes
-liquid laundry detergent 50 oz or 25 oz,
-liquid dish soap 16-28 oz,
-12-16 oz of household cleaner that can be mixed with water (no sray bottles please ex. bleach),
-48-50 pack of clothes pins
-clothesline 50ft or 100ft
-dust masks
-work gloves with leather palm
-24-28 heavy duty contracter trash bags
-6-9 oz of non-aerosol insect repellent
They are also collecting baby diapers and wipes. Rev. Sue will ferry these items to the regional office October 5th. Because the devastation has limited supplies in the east, it is better to purchase these items here.

Youth Happenings!

Hello all and Happy September!

What a busy August! We helped lead children through an adventure in Babylon at this year's VBS, we celebrated back to school with a trip to Carowinds, and we had meaningful discussions about how our church community can talk about mental health.

In September, we will tackle the theme of STRESS, and examine how four scripture passages can help us talk about how we deal with stress in our own lives. Scripture from Matthew 6, Philippians 4, 2 Corinthians 12, and Isaiah 41 will guide our discussion each week.

Thank you to everyone who provided meals for the youth in August- if you feel called to provide food for the youth one Wednesday night please contact me at 828-713-2570.

Peace,
Kaitlin

Crisis Control Ministry

Even though our temperatures are in the 90's, Crisis Control Ministry is getting ready for the cold weather that is just around the corner. For the month of September, they are requesting GRITS AND OATMEAL be given by the local churches. These are inexpensive items so add as many as you can to your shopping cart. I believe you will be "warmed" by your own generosity.

Samaritan Ministries

The shelter has a year-round list of needs that are always appreciated. They especially have shortages of men's deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, and socks.  Food items are canned meats and #10 size canned fruits, vegetables and applesauce. Please place your items next to the white bin in the foyer outside the office or in the church office.
