Class 41 Columbia River Seminar
AgForestry Class 41 members participated in the Columbia River seminar with amazing speakers and tours. Class members heard from various businesses, organizations, government agencies and tribes about their roles and interests in the Columbia River system. A highlight of the seminar was a one-hour tour on the iconic Sternwheeler Columbia Gorge out of Cascade Locks.

Class members watch Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fisheries Commission staff gather biological data from Chinook Salmon returning up the fish ladder at Bonneville Dam.
Here’s what class members said:

"Collaboration is key in any industry you work in. Just bringing all parties to the table is half the battle and if you can convince the parties the outcome working together will be more successful than battling each other that is the other half."

"I benefited by being directly exposed to the cultural history and significance of many places on the river. It is important to keep the reality of those impacts in mind as we make decisions that alter the landscape."

"It was refreshing to see the evolution of the "gavel to gavel" mentality shift to "gravel to gravel". The amount of numerous stakeholders in the Columbia river system was astounding. I didn't realize how crucial collaboration was needed for all parties to walk away feeling like they got something done as opposed to having to use costly & lengthy lawsuits to get results that only made one party satisfied."

Class 41 got an up close look at a turbine in Bonneville Dam.
