...And Suddenly the Dawn, Silvio Caiozzi's latest film after a 13 year hiatus, is Chile's official selection to compete for the foreign-language film nomination at the 2019 Oscars.
Hollywood Reporter: "the film was picked after taking home the Grand Prix prize at the Montreal Film Festival. Considering Chile’s submission should be treated with respect given their recent run of success. Last year, “A Fantastic Woman” grabbed the prize for Best Foreign Language film. The year before, the Oscar short “Bear Story” became the first Chilean film to win an Oscar. In 2012, Chile also received a nomination for “No,” directed by Pablo Larrain."

¡VIVA CHILE!

September was a great month as we celebrated Chile's Independence Day at numerous events. I'd like to share with you a couple of photos from the local events that celebrate Las Fiestas Patrias in the San Francisco Bay Area.

We had fun and I hope you can join in next year. There seems to be more and more Chilean concerts, events, wine tastings and visiting artists from Chile in our City by the Bay, San Francisco.

I hope you enjoy my newsletter and once again, thank you for reading!
At the Asado Diciochero, hosted by the Centro Chileno Lautaro, we met our new Consul General of Chile in San Francisco, Guillermo Martinez , and his charming Brazilian wife, Eliane. Welcome to San Francisco!
The group in charge of the "asado"!
Grandmother and grandson dance La Cueca, Chile's traditional folk dance.
Mauricio Bertín and Miguel Barriga, members of the Chilean rock band Sexual Democracia.
Centro Chileno Lautaro Scholarship recipients.
Everybody danced!
