CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST)          October 2018
Mile Marker#106: Spiritual Disciplines
Revs. Don Dewey & Susan Gonzales Dewey Co-Regional Ministers
By Don and Susan Dewey, Co-Regional Ministers

Summer has officially ended and the Fall Season is upon us. Though we loved the warm summer months, this past one had a lot of particularly hot days and so a slightly cooler temperature is a nice welcome.

Summers are often filled with travels, vacations, days at the beach and backyard BBQ's. We had all of those and more. It was a time to participate in our National Racial Ethnic ministries gatherings, from Phoenix Arizona to Birmingham, Alabama; as well as the College of Regional Ministers. We both were able to take a couple weeks of our Sabbatical time, Susan in July and Don later in August.

UPCOMING REGIONAL EVENTS

The theme of this year's Regional Assembly is COURAGE and is based on two important scriptures: Micah 6:8 and Mathew 5:13-16. We believe as followers of Jesus Christ that we are called to be courageous in giving witness through our lives and our words of what it means to live as a beloved human family. We need to be courageous in lifting up the values of love, compassion, justice and peace so that we can be active participants in God's redemptive mission in the world.

Our featured speakers will be National Hispanic Pastor and executive leader of Obra Hispana  Rev. Lori Tapia, and General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),  Rev. Terri Hord OwensRegister today!

REGISTER NOW for the Older Adult Retreat, held at Mater Dolorosa in Sierra Madre, California.  The retreat will feature keynote speaker Rev. Geoff Nelson, D. Min., former pastor of Whittier Presbyterian Church and author of "Dreaming in Church."   Download the Registration Flyer HERE .

2018 RESULTS ARE IN!
Thank you to all who participated in this year's tournament.  Congratulations to all of the day's winners, and we hope to see everybody again next year.

A WAY FORWARD

by Reverend Heather Miner, Pastor of North Long Beach Christian Church

I became the minister of North Long Beach Christian Church (NLBCC), an elderly church located in an area of need, six years ago.  The church had no savings but had stalwart, 'salt of the earth,' faithful people.  We were 15 in worship.  We are now reaching towards 50.

What happened is a series of testimonies to what God can do when churches care for one another. Continue Reading

We believe God calls the Pacific Southwest Region
to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.

OUR VISION, to be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community,  deep Christian spirituality and passion for justice (Micah 6:8); and,

OUR MISSION, to be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and  serving from our doorsteps "to the ends of the earth". (Acts 1:8)
