June 2019 - Issue No. 47
Students, Staff, Parents, Alumni and Friends
Have a Blast at the 125th Anniversary of
St. Bon's Sports Day!

Our Masters of Ceremonies, Hudson W and Rowan M, welcomed participants and guests.

The traditional marching of our students during the Opening Ceremonies.
St. Bon's Sports Day 2019 - 125 years after the very first Sports Day - came with one of the only sunny and warm days we have seen this month! Everyone enjoyed races, games, carnival activities and a BBQ lunch - the students especially enjoyed getting to drop their teachers in a dunk tank!

We were thrilled to be able to invite Dr. James Darcy '39 out to cut the ribbon during the Opening Ceremonies. Dr. Darcy is the oldest alumni in Newfoundland at 97 years old!

Students, faculty, parents and alumni wore special T-shirts this year in the memory of Tom McGrath, our late President who passed away suddenly in February. The Blue and Gold shirts, organized by the Parents' Auxiliary, feature suspenders and ties - Tom's go-to style. The PA was able to donate $1000 to the Bursary Program from the sale of these shirts.

For the first time, Sports Day included the Alumni and Coaches vs Students Basketball Game! We had alumni players from the 1960's all the way up to 2018! The Alumni lost an extremely close game to our Senior players - what a heart breaker! Special thank you to honorary Alumni Team Coach Ray Hawco '52, St. Bon's basketball star.

This year's dinner will be held at St. Bon's on Thursday, October 24th, 2019 . Mark your calendars - it is always a fun evening of catching up with old school friends!

The evening will open with a Mass in the Chapel, followed by a reception in the Aula, where a cash bar will be available. Dinner will follow in the gym, consisting of turkey dinner, a complimentary glass of wine, tea, coffee and dessert.

  • Update on Peter Lewis '76: As previously reported, Peter had been waiting for a new heart in Ottawa.
