Weekly News For
Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church
September 9, 2018
This Sunday

At last week's service I received a memorable and deeply meaningful welcome. It was great to greet so many people after worship and I appreciate your willingness to repeat your names again (and again!).

I was delighted to deliver the morning sermon and later co-celebrate the Lord's Supper with our Associate Pastor. In my opening remarks at the presentation, I tried to express our sincere gratitude to all the people who have played a role in making the manse ready for occupancy. I also indicated that this transition period in which we find ourselves shares similar characteristics with raising teenagers or buying a car - the most notable being a guaranteed discomfort.  The good news is that, after it's over, you'll hardly remember it.

As we look at this Sunday, you'll get the first taste of discomfort as you notice some slight adjustments to the flow of worship. These are made necessary to accommodate the required time for our Sunday School staff to implement the wonderful curriculum they will be working with this year.

All the elements of worship you are accustomed to will be there, but they may be grouped in a slightly different way. For starters, let me encourage you to make sure to arrive a few minutes before 10 am in order to enjoy the full organ prelude in preparation of hearts and minds for worship.

Beyond the excitement of the start of Sunday School, this week we will welcome the return of our Chancel Choir, ably led for now by our expert organist, Sara Hoey. And as we ordinarily do on the second Sunday of the month, Healing Prayers will be lifted up towards the end of worship. We start this new season of the year with an openness to all that God has in store for us. Welcome home!

Register Now!

Still need to register? Download a Registration Form here and send it to [email protected] as a photo with your cell phone or PDF. Or, look for individuals handing out Registration Forms as you arrive in church this Sunday. Fill it out before the children leave to go to class. Thank you!

We are thrilled to begin Sunday School on Sunday, September 9, 2018 with an exciting NEW curriculum! We will enjoy large and small group learning experiences, amazing Bible story videos, music, worship, dance, games, activities, crafts, and more, as we grow in our faith!

Please enjoy this Preview Video, so you will know what's happening in Sunday School during the month of September.

We invite children from Preschool (age 3+) through grade 6 to join us. Each Sunday morning, the  children will enter the Sanctuary with their parents/guardians to experience the beginning of our 10:00 a.m. worship service. Then, they will leave, supervised by their teachers and Escort Shepherds, and walk across the street to Wilton Hall upstairs in the Education Annex. Following worship, we ask parents to enjoy fellowship at our Coffe e Hour, before they walk over to the Annex to gather their child(ren) from their classroom downstairs at 11:20 a.m.

So that we can prepare efficiently for your arrival, please download the online Sunday School Registration Form, fill-out both sides, and hand deliver or mail to the PPPC Church Office, 701 Forman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742 as soon as possible. May I suggest an even easier, quicker method? After filling out the form, take a photo with your cell phone of both sides and send it by email to [email protected]. We will, at least, know quickly that you are coming! Then, return the original form with signature on the first day of Sunday School.

If you have questions, please email me directly or leave a message through the church office at (732) 899-0587.

With joy and anticipation,

Welcome Back Point Beach Prep Staff and Families

On Monday, Point Beach Prep will welcome 52 students under the loving direction of Director Devlin House, Co-Lead Pre-K Teachers Kerry Jones and Mandy Rauffer, Head Nursery Teacher Jessica Kaiafas, Group Nursery Teacher Abigail Davis, and Substitutes Robin Decker and Toni Palmerio.  We pray blessings upon them this next school year especially as the school expands to an afternoon session this year.

God of knowledge and wisdom, bless all the students, as they begin a new school year. Help them discover and develop the gifts you have given. As they grow in knowledge, help them to also grow in kindness and compassion, learning respect for themselves and others.

We ask your blessing on both the teachers and parents, and all those who care for them. Strengthen all who surround these children with encouragement, support and love.

Remind these little ones that wherever they go, you are always with them. Fill them with the joy of learning so that they may be better equipped to be your servants. Amen.

Medical Equipment Available to Loan

Our church is happy to loan a variety of medical equipment such as walkers, crutches, canes, wheelchairs, shower and tub benches of different designs, shower chairs, and other specialized types of medical equipment to anyone in need.  We also recently received an electric automated chair lift cushion that makes it easy for anyone to get in and out of chairs.  If you would like to borrow any of the equipment it is in the basement or you can call the office.  The church is currently well stocked in medical equipment.  We are not taking anymore donations at this time.

Bell Ringers Wanted
Handbells
Rehearsals for the Choral Bells begin
Monday, September 10
from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

We have lost a few ringers this past year and are in need of a few people to join in on this fun choir. Potential ringers must have the ability to read music. Beginners are VERY WELCOME, even if you've never picked up a handbell before. There are lots of experienced ringers who can teach you. Both men and women are welcome! There's great camaraderie among the Choral Bells members. The Choral Bells ring at several worship services through the year.  For more information, please contact Morgan Sarbello at 732-948-9205

September Dine Around

Attention all Presbyterian Women!  On the fourth Sunday of this month, September 26th, we will meet at Frankie's on Rt. 35 N, Pt. Pleasant, at      6:30 p.m.  for our "dine around".

We would love to have all of our women and their friends join us for good fellowship and good food, but we need a phone call to Maggie at 732-295-0908, or Lynn at 732-920-7133, in order to call ahead to reserve space for our group.  (Last time we had to change location at the last minute because we had no idea how many would be there. So if you don't remember those numbers you can call the church in a pinch!) See you all on the fourth Wednesday!!
