From the Rector
To the Saints in Christ Jesus at
Calvary Church,
How grateful I am for each of you!
This past All Saints' Sunday was an incredible day of worship at Calvary Church, with the highest attendance we have had
(with the exception of Easter and Christmas)
since my arrival. We remembered those loved ones departed in the year past. We stood together and made our offerings of Time, Talent, and Treasure for the coming year. And we baptized Luca Dangelo, now the youngest member of Calvary Church at five months of age.
What I experienced on Sunday was a church of humble, giving, dedicated people who believe that through God we have the ability to do all things. I understood at a deeper level the tenderness and conviction the apostle Paul conveyed back when he wrote his letter to the church in Philippi. It was a letter of joy and thanksgiving for that congregation. We know it is as the book of Philippians in the Bible.
“I thank my God every time I remember you,”
Paul begins in the first chapter of the letter. Paul then reveals the character of the community. I see that same character alive in the Calvary community.
You are a community who:
- Looks not only to your own interests, but to the interests of others (Philippians 2:4). You serve people in need in our community through IHN, St. Andrews’ Food Pantry, and Tender Mercies. Your offer your hands and feet to clean the kitchen and put away the tables when we gather together.
