From the Rector
To the Saints in Christ Jesus at
Calvary Church,

How grateful I am for each of you!

This past All Saints' Sunday was an incredible day of worship at Calvary Church, with the highest attendance we have had (with the exception of Easter and Christmas) since my arrival. We remembered those loved ones departed in the year past. We stood together and made our offerings of Time, Talent, and Treasure for the coming year. And we baptized Luca Dangelo, now the youngest member of Calvary Church at five months of age.

What I experienced on Sunday was a church of humble, giving, dedicated people who believe that through God we have the ability to do all things. I understood at a deeper level the tenderness and conviction the apostle Paul conveyed back when he wrote his letter to the church in Philippi. It was a letter of joy and thanksgiving for that congregation. We know it is as the book of Philippians in the Bible.

“I thank my God every time I remember you,”  Paul begins in the first chapter of the letter. Paul then reveals the character of the community. I see that same character alive in the Calvary community.

You are a community who:

  • Looks not only to your own interests, but to the interests of others (Philippians 2:4). You serve people in need in our community through IHN, St. Andrews’ Food Pantry, and Tender Mercies. Your offer your hands and feet to clean the kitchen and put away the tables when we gather together.

  • Rejoices in the Lord always… and are not anxious… but allow the peace of God to guard your hearts and minds. (Philippians 4:4-7) I love watching the spiritual gifts of hospitality and humor come to life every week in our shared life of worship

  • Believes you can do everything through Christ who gives [you] strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Just look at the early results from the 2020 Pledge Campaign listed below. In Christ, all things are possible, and we are just beginning to live into that truth. Thank you to all of you who pledged generously and sacrificially for the year to come. It is an exciting time at Calvary, and I’m glad you are part of it.

Gratefully,
The Reverend Allison English
Rector

HVAC Update

Why are some of the Stained Glass Windows boarded up in the church?

We are preparing for Niesen to remove the old church HVAC systems and bring the materials for the new systems up into the rafters starting next week. The boards will protect the windows from any potential accidents.

Tender Mercies

Tender Mercies provides housing and support for homeless adults with mental illness. Once a month members of Calvary prepare and serve food. We need people to make and serve food for November 24th.

If you're interested in helping you can sign up by clicking here or on the outreach bulletin board.

Life transitions have a way of upending us and leaving us spiritually seeking.
Have you experienced a move, taken on a caretaker role, become (or are preparing to become) an empty nester, retired, graduated, or had a child or grandchild in the last year?

Come and explore with the Reverend Bill Scrivener, retired chaplain from Cincinnati Children's Hospital ways to encounter God in the midst of the anticipation, chaos, and aftermath of transitions.
