St. Michael's Academy
:
We had a fantastic Walk-a-thon today. There's nothing like the combination of fresh air and walking to tire everyone out! You could hear a pin drop during the PreK nap time afterwards and I think some of the older students would have liked the opportunity to join them as well!
Thank you to the more than 50 parents and friends who volunteered to help make the morning a great success. I always like to remind everyone that this is one of just two fundraisers that St. Michael's Academy does during the school year. Because of the generosity of many, we are able to avoid the wrapping paper and candy bar types of fundraisers and that makes everyone happy!
I think everyone is ready for a little rest and relaxation. Enjoy a nice, long weekend.
God's blessings,

Good Attendance Pays Off !
Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade. Congrats to this week's winners and one from a previous week!

Car lines
|
Car Line Etiquette
We remind parents that there is
NO STOPPING
in the car lines longer than it takes for your child to get out of the car. We continue to have problems with people stopping and others needing to go around their vehicle. This causes a dangerous situation. Please review the car line drop-off and pick-up map that was sent home with your child today.

From The Office Of: Mrs. Pomeroy - School Nurse
|
Greetings From Nurse Karen's Office!
We are off to another great year here at St. Michael's! I am blessed to be a part of this school, and I am committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of each and every student, employee, and visitor.
As part of that commitment, I am actively training faculty and staff in CPR/AED/First Aid. I am also meeting with them on a regular basis to teach and discuss common childhood conditions and the management of these conditions in the school setting. This helps us to better address the health needs of our students. A healthy child is a child who can be engaged and one who can succeed in the classroom.
The goals from my office are to optimize health and prevent illness. With this in mind, it is that time of year for annual flu vaccines, and I do highly recommend the flu vaccine for all students and staff. This month would be a great time to get vaccinated, before the flu season begins. This is just one small step we can take to help keep everyone as healthy as possible.

Girls On The Run

SMA Heart and Sole Team Is Rocking!
This week was week 7 for our Grade 6-8 Heart and Sole girls. Ever wonder what they are learning?
The girls learned to connect ideas about self-confidence to their Girl Wheel and acquired new strategies for strengthening their self-confidence. They reflected on areas where they are strong, and thought about what it took to get them there, and what they do to help themselves stay strong. The Take Home Challenge for this lesson was to use these strengths to build their confidence.
SAVE THE DATE -- Friday, November 2nd there will be a Practice 5k during the regular practice time. Volunteers would be appreciated to help with cheering, lap counters, traffic, and water. Please email
[email protected] if you are able to help.

Field Trip
|
Cobble Mountain Field Trip
This week the seventh grade students were able to take a hike at Cobble Mountain Reservoir. On the hike, the students were able to get a close-up look at the biodiversity and organismal classification they have been studying in class. After the hike, the students were given an in-depth tour of the West Parish Water Filtration Facility. They were even given an opportunity to tour their state-of-the-art laboratory. It was a very fun, informative, and eventful day for all participants.

"Viva Italia" Concert
Two musical works, relatively unknown in America, will be among the selections at the "Viva Italia" concert at St. Michael's Cathedral on State Street in Springfield on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
The evening will include a mixture of rarely heard pieces including a sonata for trumpet and strings by Galuppi Baldassare and a concerto for two oboes by Antonio Vivaldi. The featured work will be the Jubilate et Gloria of Vivaldi with choir and soloists. In addition, the cathedral choir will be singing what may be the first complete American performance of Psalm 19, I Cieli Immensi (The Heavens Declare), for chorus and strings by Bendedetto Marcello.
The cathedral choir is a semi-professional, working choir that is constantly performing and learning new music because of the needs of the cathedral. It includes several current and past St. Michael's Academy boys!
The event is free and open to the public.
