CONGRATULATIONS! OUR NEW 2019 CHAIR-ELECT

NAFSA Region VII is proud to announce our 2019 Chair Elect,   Allegra Laing! 


Allegra Laing joined the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center at Elon University in March 2016 as a Study Abroad Coordinator and assumed the role of Assistant Director for Diversity and Inclusion in Study Abroad in June 2018.

As a graduate intern at Spelman College (her alma mater), she worked with the Study Abroad and International Student & Commuter Services Offices. Later, she was an Education Abroad Advisor at Washington State University (2004-2008) and a Study Abroad Coordinator at North Carolina A&T State University (2008 - 2016).

Allegra served as the chair of the North Carolina Association of International Educators (NCAIE) from March 2017 to March 2018, and the HBCU-Minority Serving Institutions representative for NAFSA Region VII from July 2013 - November 2016.
New! NETWORKING DINNER SIGN-UP IS OPEN

Sign up for a fun, social networking dinner with colleagues on Sunday, 11/11 or Monday night, 11/12 at one of the selected restaurants below. All are within 15 minutes walking distance of the hotel. Each group will be led by a volunteer guide from Region VII to the location for which you signed up. Our wonderful Local Arrangement co-Coordinators (LAC's) have made these arrangements to welcome up to 15 people each. 

You are kindly asked to honor your commitment to participate if you sign up, or delete your name if your plans change. In this manner, another attendee may participate and the LAC's will be able to provide final estimates to the host restaurants for their prep.

Be Advised! WORKSHOP REGISTRATION: 
EXTENSIONS & CANCELLATIONS

  • Registration for pre-conference workshops in Memphis have been extended to October 15th.  To learn more or to register, use the link at the top of our conference page under "Conference Registration". 
  • Registration for the HBCU Forum will also be extended and available at on-site registration.
  • The following workshops have been cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Pre-registered participants have been notified.

 SIGN-UP IS OPEN TO VOLUNTEER

Volunteering is open to all conference attendees, and is a great opportunity to network, share best practices, help others, and learn a lot.  Volunteers should report to the Volunteer Table 15 minutes prior to the session start time.  Volunteer slots are typically 1.5 -- 2 hours. 

Prior experience or knowledge is not required to sign up as a volunteer. All necessary information will be given to you when you report to the Volunteer Table.

REGBUD UPDATES

Regbud Ombudsperson for Scholar Issues Needed

Note : This is a replacement appointment for one year from November 2018 - November 2019 to complete the current three-year term in progress. 

The role description is >> here.

The term will take effect at the conclusion of the Region VII conference in Memphis, TN. A new three-year term from November 2019 - November 2022 will begin at the conclusion of the Region VII conference in Orlando next year. The replacement ombudsperson is welcome to apply for the new term as well.

To apply : Qualified candidates should complete two steps:
  1. Submit this online application by October 15
  2. Email a personal letter of interest, a letter of support from your supervisor, and your CV to the current RegBud for Scholar Issues, Marisa Atencio at: [email protected]  

NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION AT NAFSA REGION VII 

  

When:
Monday, November 12, 11:10 am - 12 noon
Where: Venetian Ballroom of the Peabody Hotel

All newcomers to NAFSA and / or to the field of international education are invited to convene for this great opportunity to learn how to navigate our conference. You'll get a useful overview of NAFSA as a professional organization and resource; learn about involvement and leadership opportunities; and meet the current Region VII team. There will be an interactive and fun networking activity also. 

Everyone is welcome and no registration is required!
