New Pennies Fund Honors Former DeKalb English Teachers
Announcing the Joe LoCascio and Mary Penson New Pennies Project Fund , established by alumni of DeKalb High School to help restore the annual publication of New Pennies , the school’s award-winning literary and art magazine.

The Fund honors two former English teachers and faculty advisors of the magazine, Joe LoCascio and Mary Penson.

Nine years…that’s 468 weeks or 3,285 days. Any way you look at it, that’s a long time to serve any organization in a volunteer role.  Thank you to Kevin McArtor  for giving of his time, talent, treasure, and ties these past nine years. His service on the Community Foundation Board of Directors is greatly appreciated!

$120,800 in Music Grants Awarded
We are happy to announce $120,800 in Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grants awarded to support music education. Recipients include 27 nonprofits and community organizations across the Midwest.

Scholarship Opportunities Available
We are currently accepting applications for:
  • CHS Elburn Scholarship
  • Palmer Family Music Education Scholarship
  • Donald and Patricia Pritchard Scholarship
  • Jeffrey A. Trail Memorail Scholarship
  • Harold P. Wells Scholarship

Of the 70+ scholarship funds that exist at the Community Foundation, these five are administered through the Community Foundation . The majority of the scholarships are administered through local high schools. Please contact the school counselor at your local high school for information and availability .
