Fauquier Community Theatre presents a new comedy online via Broadway on Demand
February 20, 21, 27, 2021
Fauquier Community Theatre’s Virtual Performing Arts Series presents the play Bad Auditions...on Camera, a comedy by Ian McWethy from Arlington and Carrie McWethy (McRossen), which will stream online on Saturday, February 20, 21, and 27, 2021.
Director Sonia Bronder (third photo from top) brilliantly brings this comedy to life that will have the audience laughing throughout! The character portrayals by the 19 talented actors are hilarious.
The show follows an overwhelmed casting director played by Haymarket resident Stub Estey, (top photo) as he auditions actors that go from strange to stranger for a role in his crime drama, Crime Court.
In the play, the auditionees were invited by the wacky overly enthusiastic casting assistant, Regina, played by local Betsy Hansen, (second photo from top) a familiar face at Fauquier Community Theatre.

BAD AUDITIONS...ON CAMERA - A hilarious comedy!
Bad Auditions..On Camera is a comedic play about a casting director who has one day to find an actor to fill the role of a lawyer in a crime procedural. But what seems like a simple task proves impossible when the pool of actors includes stage thespians who can't tone it down for the screen, performers completely unable to keep themselves in frame, and an actor who seems to believe this is a toothpaste commercial. The audience will vote for who they think should get the role as they step behind the doors of a casting session in this hilarious comedy.
The comedy focuses on a frantic, casting session for a television show, run by the harried casting director, played by Stub Estey. Throughout the process, a ragtag collection of wannabe actors try out for a pivotal role on the fictional show “Crime Court.”

|
Bad Auditions…on Camera features several veteran FCT actors including Stub Estey as the frustrated casting director and Betsy Hanson, who plays the energetic and wacky assistant.
Fresh from FCT’s successful 2020 online production of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play are Jeff Walker as Kellin, an over-the-top thespian, Greg Leggott as Greg, who can’t stay in frame, and
Bill Kaffenberger as Sergeant Grievous, a character written specially for this edition (by Betsy Hansen), and Cliff Rieger portrays Tom, Regina’s confused dad.
Award-winning FCT costumer Mickalei Lindquist is aptly cast as Rory, whose wardrobe choices are quite elaborate. Sarah Hoy returns to FCT after a previous role in a youth production almost a decade ago, now in the role of Phyllis.
All of the 19 member cast (ages 15 - 78) does a superb job with comedic timing and the show is guaranteed to bring laughter to audiences.

Director Sonia Bronder, who also plays the part of Gina Marie in the comedy says, "This production is the most hysterical shimmer of a casting director's life with 19 incredibly talented actors who will keep the audience laughing all the way through."
Bronder wrote three of the scenes in the show which are some of the funniest. Her creativity as director, film editor, and writer are a winning combination for success. The ending of the show will have the audience wanting more as they see all their favorite actors once more on screen in a series of quick clips set to music, with the actors having the "last words" with the casting director.
The three all-online performances for FCT's new comedy will be Saturday, February 20 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 21 at 2 p.m. (Technically, ticket holders will have 24-hour access to view the online show since it is being streamed on the professional platform of Broadway on Demand's ShowShare. This way FCT patrons can enjoy the usual traditional times of viewing, or choose their own new times.) The play is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

|
The running time of the show is about one hour and 15 minutes. The Saturday evening performances will be followed by an online meet and greet talkback with the cast at 9 p.m. Guests will be able to vote for their favorite character, ask questions, and chat with the actors. The Sunday matinee will also be followed by a meet and greet with the actors at 3:30 pm.
