Public Safety Tip
Help Protect Goodyear Neighborhoods From Wild Fire
Yes, Goodyear is a city but the risk for wild fire is very real -- we are surrounded with dry grasses and monsoon season is on approach.

Working together, residents can make their own property -- and their neighborhood -- much safer from wildfire.

CLEAR leaves and other debris from roofs, gutters, porches, and decks. This helps prevent embers from igniting your home.

REMOVE dead vegetation and other items within 10 feet of the house.

SCREEN in areas below patios and decks to prevent combustibles from accumulating there.

If it can catch fire, don't let it touch your house, deck or porch. REMOVE flammable materials such as wood piles and propane tanks, within 30 feet of your home's foundation -- including garages and sheds.

PRUNE trees so the lowest branches are 6 to 10 feet from the ground. Wildfire can spread to tree tops.

KEEP your lawn hydrated. If it is brown, cut it down to reduce fire intensity. DISPOSE of these items quickly. Dry grass and shrubs are fuel for wildfire.

REPLACE or REPAIR loose or missing shingles/roof tiles to prevent ember penetration.

ENCLOSE eaves and SCREEN soffit and attic vents with metal wire mesh no larger than 1/8 inch to prevent sparks from entering the home.

Plan a G.A.I.N. Event

Reminder: What We Can and Cannot See on Nextdoor

Social connections are essential to the strong quality of life that characterizes Goodyear, and we love that you are connecting with your neighbors to share resources and alerts online. The Nextdoor app has also proven a highly effective way for us to get announcements out to you!

It's important for you to know that as a public agency on Nextdoor, we can push out information and see private messages that you send to us, but we cannot see the conversations you and your neighbors are having on your community Nextdoor sites.

If you and your neighbors are having conversations on Nextdoor that are relevant to us, we would love to hear about them! You can let us know by sending us a private message or contacting us directly through the city's mobile app/online reporting tools. (Scroll down for a link to download the city's mobile app.)

Of course, for emergencies, call 911.

For non-emergencies, call 623-932-1220.
Be a Good Neighbor... Follow the Codes
Only Rain in the Storm Drain
Prepping your pool for summer? A reminder: it is unlawful to backwash swimming pools or allow large amounts of water to flow into a city street or alley.

In fact, a free pool draining permit is required.

Keep pool water on your property or release it through a sewer clean-out. Allowing water to run to other people's property, public rights-of-way, or open space is illegal. Federal law and three local ordinances may be violated. This may lead to a citation or a misdemeanor charge.

Monitor the water while it drains. Allowing water to run unattended is water waste, and violates city ordinances.

Learn more at goodyearaz.gov/poolwater .

Report violations via the city's mobile app or the Report a Problem button on the city's website, goodyearaz.gov.
