We're into Hurricane Season and while the tropics are quiet, now is a great time to start refreshing and replenishing your hurricane supplies.

News You Can Use and Other Interesting Tidbits
Hurricane Preparedness: The July 11 session has 10 seats left. If you have not attended one of this year's Hurricane Preparedness sessions, check your calendar and register TODAY. Registration will close when we reach capacity; the first two sessions were "sold out" weeks before the event. Click here for July 11th details and registration. Invite your neighbors. Attending a Hurricane Preparedness session is the first step toward membership in LWR CERT.


Team Kits: Thank you to those Team Captains who retrieved their team kits on June 1. It was amazing to watch the well-oiled Logistics team spring into action when a vehicle pulled up. Thanks to Logistics Committee team members Pat Knowles, Karen Lemley, Larry Lemley, Patt Staley, Mike Staley and Tony Vasile for a job well done!

Tornado Awareness - Manatee County Emergency Management is hosting this FEMA-certified class July 22 from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM in Bradenton. Attend to increase your understanding of the basics of tornado science, the weather forecasting process and the tornado warning process. You'll learn concepts of how to better implement safety measures for you and your family. The course is open to the public and offers continuing education credits, if needed.There are only a few spots left. Click here for registration and additional details .

Special Needs Registry: Manatee County offers a Special Needs Registry designed to assist residents who will require transportation or sheltering assistance if you need to evacuate because of a storm. Annual registration is required. Click here to register online.

Did you know that Manatee County Emergency Management is now recommending that we all upgrade our Hurricane Kits to contain 7 days worth of supplies, food and water?

Congratulations to Jim Emanuelson for becoming a ham radio operator. Jim passed the Technician Class test in June. The LWR CERT Radio Committee is actively seeking new members and can provide study guides and tips to help you study for the 35-question test. The next radio operator test in Manatee County is in August.

Several of our members have recommended the June issue of Florida Currents, a publication of the Peace River Electric Cooperative. They found the information helpful and concise.
