Summer Day Camp @ Columbia Crossing

 Susquehanna Heritage is excited to launch a week long summer day camp for summer 2019! SUSQ Camp is a one-week long day camp for kids and teenagers ages 12-15 who want to get out on the river! Spend half the day learning how to paddle with Chiques Rock Outfitters and exploring our region of the Lower Susquehanna. Spend the other half of the day at Columbia Crossing with Susquehanna Heritage staff doing camp activities!  Scholarships are available and space is limited!  For more information and to register visit our website.
 
Global Launch Day! 
50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Launch
Tuesday July 16
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 by participating in the round-the-world Global Launch! Join Susquehanna Heritage and the Captain John Smith Chesapeake (CAJO) National Historic Trail as we launch rockets and earn your Junior Ranger Spaceflight Explorer Certificate!
C olumbia Crossing - Ranger Hour 10 am - 11 am
Become a Junior Ranger Spaceflight Explorer by making mini straw rockets and counting down a water rocket launch. Participants will complete their Spaceflight Explorer booklet and get sworn in by a National Park Service Ranger. 
Zimmerman Center for Heritage - Stomp Rocket Launch! 1 pm - 2 pm
Early explorers like Captain John Smith were pioneers and inspiration for the first astronauts to land on the moon. Learn more about John Smith at the Official Visitor Contact Station for the CAJO Trail and build a stomp rocket to celebrate the round-the-world global launch for the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary. Become a Junior Ranger Spaceflight Explorer and be sworn in by a National Park Service Park Ranger.

SWAY Yoga at the River
Susquehanna Heritage and SWAY Yoga have teamed up to offer special yoga sessions at Columbia Crossing this summer.

Sunset Yoga Classes will take place on select Thursdays: July 11, & July 25, between 7 pm and 8 pm. $10 per person.

Community Yoga Classes will take place on Sundays July 14, and August 18. These free, beginner, yoga classes are from 1 pm - 2 pm.

Bring a chair, blanket, and picnic to Columbia Crossing on select Sundays for live music in the park. Enjoy an afternoon along the riverfront listening to great local bands, stay for dinner in our historic river towns.

 
Geocaching Class with Isaac's!
 Saturday July 20th: 10:30 AM - 12 PM

Isaac's Restaurant has been creating some outdoor fun this summer! Their mascot Filbert has been busy placing geocaches in local parks and along trails. On July 1st the first clues on how to find them will be released on their website. Isaac's has teamed up with Susquehanna Heritage to get you geocache-ready. Join us at Columbia Crossing to get started with this fun way to experience the outdoors.  Learn about this fun past-time and go hunting for locations and treasures! This workshop will start at Columbia Crossing with an introduction to geocaching and how to use hand-held GPS units. After that, it is off to hunt for caches in Columbia River Park. A limited number of GPS units will be available for use during the program. Register by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 717-449-5607.

During these beautiful summer months try to stick to locally grown produce from roadside stands and markets. Not only are they delicious and support our local economy they also have less transportation costs and emissions associated with them than fruits and veggies shipped from far away. 
Cycle the River Trail with Susquehanna Heritage
Register for our new guided bicycle tours of the NW River Trail! Have you always wondered why there's so many ruins between Columbia and Marietta? Or maybe you're curious about Chickies Rock and how it formed. Susquehanna Heritage and Rivertownes PA have teamed up for guided group rides to answer all your questions.
