What is the future direction for your early childhood research?
"My research interests currently center on Montessori early childhood classrooms, lab schools and high-quality early childhood inclusion. I am eager to continue my work with public Montessori schools, looking at how credentialed Montessori teachers, and the Montessori classroom environment, supports children with disabilities in a unique way."
Are there any new research projects or activities that you are starting on?
"I am collaborating with a multidisciplinary team from UNL, UNK, UNO and UNMC to tackle the idea of quality in Nebraska's inclusive early childhood classrooms, especially when looking at the experience of a child with a disability. This work will allow us to take a look at a variety of early childhood classroom models — traditional, Creative Curriculum, Montessori and other approaches — and how the particular model perhaps influences the quality of inclusion."
What is a strength of early childhood research at the University of Nebraska?
"Nebraska is a great place for early childhood programs, policies and people. In my experience so far, Nebraska policymakers, researchers and professionals are welcoming, and invite conversations and collaboration. I appreciate the internal funding opportunities, such as NU Collaboration Initiative Planning Grants and Seed Grants, which help support faculty collaboration and research. Support for exploring external funding has similarly been helpful through the University of Nebraska Foundation."
