Officer's Column
As we navigate through tough times, we are sometimes in need of a listening ear, someone to walk with us through the challenge. Wake Forest Presbyterian Church has Stephen Ministers who are available to be with you through your situation. Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry where a trained Stephen Minister will be matched with you to provide care, prayer and help as you process your challenge. Stephen Ministers are prepared to work with you safely during the pandemic. If you are overwhelmed yet think that your situation isn't serious enough for a Stephen Minister, consider reaching out to one of our Pastors or our Stephen Leaders who can begin a referral for you and help begin your process of moving through your situation. Our Stephen Leaders are Armin Harrell ([email protected] or 919-441-0529), Barbara Winch (919-870-5918) and Jenny Carrington ([email protected] or 919-215-8809.)

Prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, who is always with us, help us feel your presence when we are feeling lonely or overwhelmed. Help us be open to your spirit and help us seek your guidance in all circumstances. Let us reach out when we are in need and lean on something or someone other than ourselves. Thank you for your unfailing love. Amen,

Kathy Dudley, Stephen Minister (outgoing Clerk of Session)
Congregational Meeting
A congregational meeting will take place the last week of January via email, for the purpose of electing an elder for worship.  Be on the lookout for further details.

Recognizing Service at WFPC
Melodee Frasier has been a tireless teacher of young minds through our Prep for Worship class for many many years!  She has guided 3rd graders through the whats, the hows and the whys of worship in the Presbyterian tradition, and she has guided so many on their faith journey to being more well-rounded, thinking Christians.  Melodee is retiring from her post as Prep for Worship teacher, and we could not be more grateful for her years and years of service to God through the teaching of children.  Melodee, we are sad to see you go, but we are so very honored by your years of service and wish you all the best as you find new ways to serve God!

Deidra Powell has retired from leadership of Ministry2Military Care Packages after 10+ years of service. A sincere and heartfelt thanks to Deidra for her service and leadership! Care Packages started when Deidra's sons were deployed in military service and had fellow service people who weren't receiving care packages from home. Through her leadership, many service men and women have received support over the years in their deployments. The M2M Care Package mission will remain a part of the ministries of WFPC under the Compassion and Encouragement Deacon Ministry Team.  Thank you Deidra for your service!

We would like to recognize and thank both Laura Murphy and Millie Seiler for dedicating their time and talent to leading our Mission and Outreach Veterans Assistance team and activities. Laura eagerly accepted the role of team lead in late 2019 offering her energy and enthusiasm for missions. Staying in contact with the Durham VA and coordinating the purchasing and delivery of requested food items was one of her monthly responsibilities.
We would also like to thank Millie Seiler who played a key role to organize the Memorial Day and Veterans Day Food Drives in conjunction with Lowes Foods. Going forward we are blessed that the duo of Bennie and Bonnie Hoots has graciously volunteered to lead this mission!
Epiphany Words
Our Epiphany tree is FULL of stars! How wonderful that so many have taken an intentional step to live into a promise of God's love in new ways in the coming year! The Epiphany words and stars will be up until Tuesday, January 26, so if you have not come by to pick your word, please do so soon!
Labyrinth
Although the prayer stations have been taken down, we are leaving  the labyrinth in place for a little longer.  Please feel free to stop by and experience that if you haven't had the chance (or you have already done it and want to do it again)!
Favorite Scripture?
We are putting a booklet together for the youth that will include favorite scriptures from our church members.  We will use this to create devotions for our time together and give the youth opportunities to dig in to God's word!  Our prayer is that this will be something special that they can keep and refer back to for years to come.  Please send your favorite scripture and a sentence or two explaining why it is your favorite to Janet Briley at [email protected].  We will not add names so that you can remain anonymous.  If you would like for us to include your name with the scripture, let Janet know!
Sympathy
Please join us in offering love and sympathy to Pastor Rebekah Maul and family on the passing of her sister, Rachel Dawn McMahan, on January 14.  Pastor Rebekah was able to be with her sister during her final days.
Mission and Outreach
WAKE Up and Read's 8th Annual Book Drive: January 23 - February 28, 9a-2p
WAKE Up and Read is a community coalition made up of 30+ committed organizations working together toward one common goal -- improving childhood literacy.  Between 10 am -2 pm, please bring children's books by the church and leave them in the marked bins at the front doors.  Books that are needed are:
  • books that babies through 5th grade will want to read
  • books that pique a child's interest
  • books that are new or gently read
  • books that reflect a diverse population
February Blood Drive is Rescheduled
The February Blood Drive at WFPC has been rescheduled until late March due to the surge in COVID cases. If you signed up for an appointment at the last drive you will be contacted via email with rescheduling information. Please contact Amanda McCabe with questions ([email protected]).

Tri Area Ministry (TAM)
Did you know that you can download a full list of all requested food and personal care items on the Tri Area Ministry website at https://triareaministry.com/donate/? They even provide a link to their Amazon wish list to make shopping even easier! Check it out. Donations can be dropped off at 149 E. Holding Ave. downtown Wake Forest every Monday and Wednesdays from 10 am to 1pm and the second and third Saturdays of each month (same times). In addition, there is a convenient 24/7 drop-off box out front if you can't drop-off donations during the open business hours.

Backpack Buddies
Our WFPC Backpack Buddies program continues to operate off campus through weekly meal packing and deliveries to The Wake Forest Boys and Girls Club. If you would like to donate food items, please contact Ed Tharrington at [email protected] or to volunteer, contact Heather Wheeler at [email protected]. Thank you for your support!

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity had its kickoff meeting this past Monday, bringing together seven faith coalitions in the greater Raleigh area.  New homes are still being constructed, but due to COVID only professional contractors and Habitat employees are permitted to work on Habitat sites.  Hopefully in a few months we will be able to start volunteering again!  Stay tuned for future updates!

If you would like any information on how you can get involved or what is happening with a specific ministry, please feel free to contact your Mission and Outreach elders with questions. Contact Randy at [email protected]  and Sabrina at [email protected]

Youth Group This Sunday, January 24
We had a great time last Sunday with a bonfire and 9-square!  Thank you for continuing to do your part to keep everyone safe!  It was awesome to have that time of fellowship together!  We will meet again this Sunday (Middle school from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and high school from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)!!  Our meeting spot last week blocked out the traffic noise, so we are going to meet there again!  Bundle up, bring your chair and mask, follow the red "new adventure" signs, and be ready for a wonderful hour of fellowship!  See you Sunday!
