Cafe Gratzi at Emerson Elementary
A message from Dave Martinson and Elasia Navarro, EBD Instructors...

Cafe' Gratzi' began at Emerson Elementary School 11 years ago with fellow staff members welcoming the students from our EBD (Emotional Behavioral Development) program into their classrooms. Our students began transitioning into general education activities on the playground, lunchroom, library, gym, music room, and the school office. We wanted to invite all of our staff for a luncheon once a year, decorating a classroom with decorations and “thank you” posters that the students made, teaching lessons about hosting an event at a “restaurant,” letting the students know that this was their “business,” and the social skills necessary to be good hosts and hostesses. Each year, our students have "risen to the challenge." It has been very satisfying to hear the kids say how good it felt to say “thank you” and to do something for others.
