Dear Neighbor,

It is my pleasure to share our June E-Newsletter which highlights important budget work, City Hall updates, and district events taking place this month. I would like to remind you to attend our a nnual Youth Summit  hosted in conjunction with the District 16 Education and Youth Council this Saturday, June 8th at 11AM at the Alianza MOSAIC Beacon Center . Our youth have been working hard to create a space for Youth Empowerment, through Education and Enrichment opportunities. 
 
During the month of June, I stand with our brothers and sisters of the LGBTQ+ community in celebration, and recognition of Pride Month. We also recognize the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall and the major role it has played in LGBTQ+ history. I stand with our brothers and sisters in solidarity and partnership to continue supporting programs that serve our diverse community. The LGBTQ+ community has made significant contributions to our district and I invite you all to Save the Date, Saturday, July 13th , for our Annual LGBTQ Summer Brunch! Stay tuned. 
 
June is also Caribbean Heritage Month and I am proud to recognize the rich culture, heritage and history of Caribbean Americans. As a proud second generation Caribbean from my father from the Island of Trinidad, I invite you to join us for a Celebration of Caribbean History on Thursday, June 27th, at 12pm .  

During this season, I send my warmest Congratulations to all the graduates, the Class of 2019 in our district moving up to higher levels of education. We salute you all on a job well done! Our office each year provides Certificates to all graduating students in District 9. Congratulations Class of 2019!

The New York City Council is working diligently to negotiate a budget that all New Yorkers can be proud of. During the month of June, the Council will continue its negotiations with the Administration to ensure that all of the priorities that affect our communities are reflected in the FY20 budget.

Additionally, Council Member Gibson introduced Resolution 0862-2019 which calls on the State of New York to pass, and the Governor to sign, A.04372, to direct the consumer protection division to conduct a study on limited service pregnancy center entities.

Jerome Rezoning Update

The  Jerome Avenue Neighborhood plan  was adopted in March 2018.  To track the progress of this rezoning, please view the  Neighborhood Rezoning Commitments Tracker .

Budget Update
The Discretionary Expense and Capital Funding applications are now closed. Please check with  NYC Council Website  for funding results at the end of June.

Participatory Budgeting (PB)

We would like to thank the more than 3,000 residents who voted on how to spend $1 million. You voted, and here are the projects that won. These projects will be fully funded in June, when the New York City Council adopts a budget.
$180,000 - Smart Boards and Laptop Carts for Bronx School for Law Government & Justice.

$105,657 - Security Cameras along Featherbed Lane & MLK blvd.

$200,000 - Audio and visual tech upgrade at Girls Prep Academy

$500,000 - Playground renovation at Butler Houses
