Welcome from the Director
Dr. Gabriel Morley
Welcome to the new bi-weekly newsletter of the Fulton County Library System. We're excited to share news and information from around the Library System with our patrons through @FulcoLibrary News. This new digital format will replace the printed Access newsletter you have previously seen in our branches. Not to worry! You will still be able to pick up a monthly calendar of events at your local branch, however you will receive even more useful information about your library and what's happening around the County in this format. We hope you like the new look and all the great content about all you favorite library programs.

We know you'll love this new way of receiving library news and hope you will share it with a friend!
All Libraries will be closed Monday, November 11th in observance of Veteran's Day.
Join the #BigLibraryRead - November 4 - 18
Big Library Read connects readers around the world with the same book at the same time without any waitlists or holds. The current title,  I’m Not Dying with You Tonight , is a story about two different girls, from two different backgrounds, and one chaotic night. Note: contains mature themes.

You can grab your copy now through November 18 on the Libby app or on Overdrive with your Fulton County Library Card. Join the discussion on discuss.biglibraryread.com.
Did You Know? Auto-Renewals for Borrowed Materials
The Fulton County Library System recently rolled out auto-renew, a new feature to better serve our patrons. Checked-out materials will now be automatically renewed on the day they’re due. This does not apply to digital check outs such as Overdrive or Hoopla, only items available in the physical library collection.

Pre-overdue notices will still go out as usual. If a patron doesn’t return or renew the item by the due date, it will be automatically renewed.

An item won’t auto-renew if:
- It’s reached its maximum renewals.
- There’s a waiting list.
- The patron’s account is blocked.
- Inter-Library Loans do not auto-renew.

Patrons are always encouraged to check their   accounts online to stay on top of their due dates.

Ponce Library Now Closed for Renovations
The Ponce de Leon Library is now closed for renovations. Patrons are reminded to transfer hold items, locate a nearby library to return library materials and search for library programs. You can also use the Library System’s library locator tool to search for an alternate library.

The Ponce de Leon Library closed to the public on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 6 p.m. in order to begin extensive renovation work.

Construction is expected to take approximately six months to complete. During the closure library service will be available at the following nearby locations:

Featured Library Renovation: Sandy Springs Library
The Sandy Springs Library opened on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 to a full house, including County Commissioners, County and local officials and residents. Some fun facts about the Sandy Springs Library opening week and beyond:

  • More than 4,000 people visited the Sandy Springs Library on opening day.
  • Checked out more than 1,800 items on opening day alone!
  • Since opening, Sandy Springs has circulated approximately 27,000 items each month.
  • Last month (October 2019) the Sandy Springs Library welcomed over 27,000 visitors!
  • Fun fact: did you know the Sandy Springs Library does an average of 74 programs for all ages each and every month? Find out more at www.afpls.org.

It's safe to say the community is thrilled to be back in this beautiful new space. Our staff looks forward to serving our patrons for many years to come.
The new children's area includes a storytime and craft room, children's computer section, reading nooks throughout and open spacious layout.
The computer lab allows patrons to find all available computers in one place, close proximity to printers and staff assistance! A big improvement from our previous layout.
New study rooms allow for more private reading, studying or collaborative projects for students, adults, seniors, tutoring or anyone looking to meet in a more private setting.
Small reading nooks like these allow patrons to enjoy some natural light while reading, studying, checking email or just relaxing.
Electronic Resources: hoopla
In our last edition we highlighted Overdrive and the Libby app. This week we highlight hoopla , a platform that offers a wide selection of books, music, and videos.

While selections on Overdrive are tailored to Fulton County's audience, hoopla’s selections are more broad, and include public domain classics and older best sellers. If you can’t find something you want on Overdrive, hoopla is a great place to check for more titles.

In addition to books, music and video, hoopla has all Marvel and DC titles, Overdrive has more indie comics.

Patrons have up to 10 checkouts per month on hoopla , so what are you waiting for? Get on out there and start browsing!
