Not Just the Border: Support Undocumented Immigrants with BIJAN (Beyond)
|
"I had a chance to step back last week and follow the activities of BIJAN (Boston Immigrant Justice Accompaniment Network) from a distance, and was struck by the beautiful network of love and support we are building together with our neighbors who bear the brunt of our broken immigration system. All of the supports we provide, whether attending hearings, providing rides or housing, raising funds for bonds and legal assistance, or writing letters of support, have been requested directly by our neighbors who are detained by ICE, or their family and friends." - Sarah Kianovsky, co-chair of TI Immigrant Justice Team and member of BIJAN coordinating team
Donate to the Beyond Bond and Legal Defense Fund
In the last few months, we've helped to bond out a couple of people almost every week, but average b
ond amounts have more than doubled since last year, so we are depleting our funds more quickly than in the past.
Please consider c
ontributing to the Beyond Bond and Legal Defense Fund
so that we can keep supporting our neighbors as they fight for themselves and one another to be free!
Support the Hotline
Our neighbors in detention reach out to us every day by phone and speak to our hotline volunteers who answer with compassion and warmth, updating information on their cases and sharing messages for family, but
the cost keeps rising as more and more people reach out.
If you'd like to help support this vital link,
please become a monthly sustainer of our hotline
Home Hospitality
Do you have space in your home? We do our best to continue to support our neighbors once they have been released from ICE facilities.
Sign up here to offer home hospitality
or to support the
housing
and community sponsorship needs of members of our community out on bond.
Volunteer with BIJAN
Over 30 TI members are actively volunteering with BIJAN, going to court, providing rides, answering the hotline, providing legal support, and other needs. To learn more, attend the
upcoming BIJAN (pronounced "Beyond") General Meeting on Thursday July 11th from 6:00pm-9:00pm at
Reservoir Church, 170 Rindge Avenue, Cambridge MA
. In these political times it is more important than ever to come together to build community, learn from each other, especially those most impacted by and organizing against our oppressive, inhumane immigration policies and find ways to resist together. There will be focused discussions for people who have already been involved in specific activities, like housing, courtroom accompaniment, or phone answering, and there will also be more general orientation groups for newer folks
RSVP Here.
We always welcome new members! If you are interested in learning more about BIJAN but are not involved just yet, or are looking for support for yourself or a loved one, please join us and we will connect you.
Feel free to reach out sooner!
