Two long-term board members step off
After 10 years, and the entire history of CCEH, board members Maggie Fogarty and Ellen Fries were celebrated as they stepped down this month. Both were present at the founding of the Coalition, and before then were active with the first emergency winter shelters in Concord housed in 2 churches. When the shelters were closing for the season in 2008, a group of concerned citizens, shelter volunteers, faith leaders and homeless services providers came together to figure out what could be done throughout the year to serve those in need of shelter, helping them to access necessary services and opportunities so they could move forward. From this group sprang the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness and the Concord Homeless Resource Center.
Having seen this organization grow in ability and scope through the years, Maggie and Ellen both celebrate the huge steps taken to hire an executive director, expand the Resource Center, add a Housing First Concord program and now to assure an Emergency Winter Shelter by building a permanent space in which to house it. Both feel it has been a great honor to be a part of this organization, and both will continue to contribute in various ways to the ongoing work of CCEH.
