Day 63: "Safari" to the Kansas City Zoo and African Artistry

We are back venturing out after our stop to celebrate Father's Day. Hope you had a good time and are ready to keep moving through our Week of Wanderlust as the world begins to re-open.

One of our favorite getaways which is so close to Brookside, is Kansas City's recently reopened Zoo and its brand new $10 million Elephant Expedition. The Elephant exhibit was renovated this past winter and has now been open for a few weeks. New additions include larger walking paths for guests, water fountains and refill stations along the path, a larger and easier access pool for the elephants, as well as a shaded plaza area with restrooms, a mother's room, and an adult changing station.

The Zoo has created ways to visit and still practice social distancing, so give them a call to find a good time to go. While there, you will discover the new Elephant Expedition. Take a quick look:

The KC Zoo is a great home for their elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and hippos and you can imagine you have been away on safari in Africa. Looking for memories not only of the animals, but of the people of Africa and their rich cultural heritage? World's Window has African masks and artistry from a number of countries. Some recall the spirit of an animal; others evoke an ancestor or could be part of a celebration.

Most of you know that World's Window began as a world ethnographic art and craft store. The store has evolved over the years but our mission has stayed the same, to make connections between artisans and consumers with integrity and good will. For me, the African pieces that we have brought to Kansas City over the years have really spoken of a human connection to the earth and to the spirits of all living things.
