The Fireplace Series continues next month! Join professors Selena Couture (Assistant Professor of Drama, University of Alberta) and Dorit Naaman (Professor and Graduate Coordinator, Film and Media, Queen's University) as they explore settler relationships to land in different area contexts in Settler Accountability and Responsibility on November 1.

Professors Couture and Naaman aim to have an open-ended discussion about how settlers can construct accountable and responsible relationships among and with occupied spaces, places, and peoples,  followed by a discussion with the audience.  

The event will take place in the Fireplace Reading Room in Stauffer Library. Tea will be served at 9:45am.

dropLet's Talk Drop: A Workshop 

The Student Services team is holding a short workshop on Monday, October 28 from 12:00-1:00 pm in Dunning Hall Room 136 (main boardroom). If you have students who are thinking of dropping a class or are maybe struggling with their current workload, please refer them to register for this workshop. They will need to bring a laptop with them as they will also have the opportunity to sit with an advisor to run their Academic Advisement Report and learn how to read and understand it.

r4rResources for Research at Queen's

The next installment of R4R@Q launches on October 23 with a session on " The value of academic awards" (led by Kelly Blair-Matuk and Mona Rahman, OVPR).
 
R4R@Q is an introduction to the resources and people helping you achieve success across the research and knowledge mobilization lifecycle. 

Sessions run once per month from October to April in Stauffer Library Room 121; 12:30-1:30.

Queen's University is pleased to once again host Thrive from November 4-8, 2019.

Thrive is a week-long series of events focused on building positive mental health for Queen's staff, faculty, and students.  To kick off the week, Francoise Mathieu, Executive Director, TEND, will be providing a keynote address: " The Edge of Compassion - Staying Well While Working in High Stress Environments" on Tuesday, November 5 from 9:00-10:00am in Dupuis Auditorium.   

Registration is required, so please review the attached poster and visit https://www.queensu.ca/thrive/ to secure your spot.  Please visit the Thrive website and register for Thrive events being held from November 4-8.

Fall Preview is coming up fast! The format this year has changed slightly. Instead of two Saturdays in a row, it is one weekend, with the event taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Please let  Sarah Chapman know if you have any questions about this.

We will bring your banners, prospective documents (undergraduate), and graduate maps for the event, but feel free to bring 3D artifacts that represent your discipline to dress up your table. Non-3D objects are not required nor recommended. As usual, we will provide coffee and snacks for all volunteers.
quipQueen's Undergraduate Internship Program (Reminder)

Start talking to your students about completing an internship during their degree. This is a great chance for students to apply the knowledge and skills they have been gaining through their classroom and co-curricular experiences.
  • Internships are 12 to 16 months, and are paid, professional work experiences
  • Students are eligible to participate after completing their 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate studies
  • The program is open to students from Engineering, Computing, and Arts & Sciences

SWEPSummer Work Experience Program (Reminder)

The Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP)  is entering its 25th year. Funded partially through the undergraduate portion of the Student Assistance Levy, the program encourages the creation of on-campus summer jobs that offer valuable experiential learning opportunities for Queen's undergraduate students who will be returning to studies in the fall.

The SWEP wage for Summer 2020 is $16.00 per hour including vacation pay.

The Employer Guide to SWEP has been updated to provide you with information about the program and the process. Please refer to the Employer Guide 2019-2020.

The proposal template has been updated with additional instructions to help you complete your proposal. It is done in Word so you can work easily on your drafts and then copy and paste your final version into MyCareer.
 
Students will work with their supervisors to complete a required brief EL WrapAround Learning Reflection Form to help reinforce their learning and the value of the experience.  Please refer to the Employer Guide for further instruction along with workshop dates for Workshop Support for Supervisors.
