Hello
CDN Update

An enormous thanks to everyone who contributed to and attended College Expo19. The Academy of Sport and Wellbeing at Perth College UHI was a fantastic venue for this landmark event – our thanks go to the wonderful team at Perth College for all their support and help in making College Expo such a success.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Kirsty Robb as the very first inductee of the Scottish College Hall of Fame on 12 June as part of the opening of the first day of College Expo, when Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, presented her award.

Entries for this year’s College Awards have closed with a record-breaking number of more than 100 submissions received. The short list will be announced on Monday 2 September, good luck to all who entered!

We have opened our Management and Leadership Programmes for session 2019-20 and we are now recruiting for our new Emerging and Strategic Leadership Programmes which lead to CMI qualifications. Find out how you and your teams can benefit from tailored learning and preferential rates for the college sector.

I would like to wish you all a pleasant summer and very much hope to see you at one of our events next session. Please, as ever, don’t hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of our work: jim.metcalfe@cdn.ac.uk

Recruitment open: New Management and Leadership Programmes
CDN’s Management and Leadership Programmes support colleges to lead with confidence in an uncertain world. Our programmes are designed to meet the needs of the sector and are tailored to the individual needs of our delegates. We are currently recruiting for our Emerging and Strategic Leadership Programmes which lead to CMI qualifications.
Marketing and Communications Conference
This national conference takes place on 12 September at Stirling Court Hotel and is for everyone who works in marketing, communications, PR and design across the education landscape in Scotland – whether in agency or educational settings. A fantastic programme includes thought-provoking keynotes and hands on workshops. There is a charge of £45 for this major full-day conference.
First Scottish College Hall of Fame inductee
We were delighted to welcome Dr Kirsty Robb as the first inductee of the College Hall of Fame on 12 June. Kirsty was one of only three Scottish women on a ship which set sail for Antarctica in January this year. A former student from Forth Valley College, Kirsty progressed to study for a BSc Hons in biochemistry and immunology, then on to a PhD. She is a wonderful ambassador for STEM.
Teaching in Colleges Today
The newly updated Teaching in Colleges Today (TiCT) free online course is a great CPD resource for college lecturers, especially for staff who are new in post. It includes information to help lecturers deliver engaging lessons and impactful learning, teaching and assessment. The online content will also be of interest to experienced lecturers who want to find out more about latest thinking on effective learning and teaching.
Weekly round-up of college news
Every Friday CDN issues an online round-up of what’s been happening across the college sector. It’s free and very quick and easy to sign up.
