Summer Break #2 - Thursday, June 27, 2019

With my wife Tammy. Have a safe and happy July 4th holiday!
This is about the time each summer that I begin to refocus our goals for the upcoming school year. The challenge for me is articulating the need for certain adjustments and changes to our kids, as they are not necessarily receptive or as understanding to change as those with more experience. However, we need to remain agile; refine processes; ensure student and staff safety and educational opportunities that put our kids in a position to succeed.

I'm grateful for this time each summer to take stock, reflect, unwind and process for personal and professional improvement. I hope you and your kids have that time as well.

Finally, I just read that according to AAA, nearly 49 million Americans are making plans to honor the red, white and blue with an Independence Day getaway this year. This is a record count and Orlando is the number one travel destination. So whether you are staying in town next week or traveling, please be careful out on the roadways and remember to buckle up.

Student Spotlight
Congratulations to Jonathan Bazan, Natalie Munoz, Willian Trejo, and Ariadne Quintero!
Four very talented young writers were awarded a special trip to Washington D.C. this month and upon their return, shared with Principal Loftus that this was the best trip they had ever experienced! They were all especially overwhelmed when they laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. These four students' essays on the importance of Washington D.C. and its impact on their personal lives were by far the best in our school and were extremely well written.

With the crowd watching respectfully, a member of the U.S. Armed Forces Honor Guard carries the wreath from Acceleration East High School to be laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.

The beautiful wreath from Jonathan, Natalie, Willian, Ariadne and Acceleration East High School. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a monument dedicated to deceased U.S. service members whose remains have never been identified.
