You may know James Patterson as one of the best-selling authors of all time, but within literary circles, he is also known and respected as a true advocate for independent bookstores. Every year, he runs the James Patterson Holiday Bonus Program, which gives nominated booksellers a chance at a meaningful bonus at the end of the year. Some of our booksellers have won these awards before, and they can tell you it's not only a financial help during the holidays, it's also an affirmation of all they do within our store. The Diary Of A Bookseller by Shaun Bythell
Shaun Bythell is the perennially exasperated proprietor of what has to be the most delightful used bookshop in the UK, if not the world. If it's not the clueless or downright rude customers, it's his staff and their tendency to do things their own way, no matter what the boss says. At heart, though, you can tell he has a tremendous soft spot for the people in his life -- none more than Nicky, his obstreperous assistant/nemesis. This diary is not just for us bookstore geeks, though; anyone who loves a good anecdote and tales of small-town life will find nourishment here.
File Anne Youngson's debut novel (at the age of 70) under 'good things that come in small packages'. An English farm wife and a Danish museum curator begin a correspondence. Their lives couldn't be more different; the curator even needs an English dictionary at his side to be sure of the meanings of some words, but they manage, through all that, to tell each other the stories of their lives and give voice to their feelings through the intimacy of letter writing.
This gorgeous novel finds Suzanne Matson digging into her inner Elizabeth Strout, as she offers up three generations of women, each discovering their independence, in and away from family. Beginning in India and ending up in Boston, Matson offers up short stories, each a snapshot of a time in one or more of the women's lives. Each snapshot is self-contained, but taken as a whole, they offer a lovely, yet unflinching, look at family, love, death, and the way our own values affect our lives.

Darius The Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram
Darius is half Persian, but knows more Klingon than Farsi and is more comfortable with Hobbit social cues than Persian. So, he fears the worst when his parents announce a trip to Iran to visit his mother's family for the first time. Struggling with depression, a difficult relationship with his father, and a little sister who is everything he isn't, Darius feels way out of place. That starts to change when he meets Sohrab and an entirely new world is opened up. Sohrab is a lifeline, helping Darius discover himself and his place within this new sprawling Persian family. This book is so charming! I completely fell for Darius, and his entire family and would live between the pages of this book forever if I could. Read this one now!

Bo paid us a visit recently. His owner isn't certain of his age, but he believes he is a boxer / beagle mixed breed. In any case, he is undeniably cute. He was discovered in a box on an abandoned property, and was instantly adopted by his new family. He enjoys squirrel-chasing, anything to do with chicken or cheese, and cuddling -- but only with close family! Welcome to Wellesley Books, Bo!
