LIBRARY RECEIVES A DOZEN LAPTOPS

In early June, Library Director Sarah Marshall called the Kent Center School and asked if they woul d be willing to loan the Library some laptops for educational purposes. Seventh and eighth grade students at the school are loaned laptops for their exclusive use during the school year. After double-checking, Principal Michelle Mott said they had just upgraded and had 12 older but good-quality laptops that they would be happy to give the Library. The laptops are in excellent condition an d are already loaded with software.

For many years the Library and the school have collaborated. The Children's staff is invited in to present programs and publicize events directly to the students. For many years the school library has shared its collection of Nut meg Award nominees for KML to circulate to Kent patrons over the summ ers. In 2011 and 2012 they allowed the Library to use their gymnasium for two Kent Lecture Series events featuring Colin Powell and Meryl Streep. Currently, there are 13 KCS alumni exhibiting their work in the Library's gallery.

"The fact that they gave us these laptops is another example of great collaboration. By sharing their excess materials the school demonstrates its support for one of our Library's most important missions: Life Long Learning. We will now be able to offer tech classes for those looking to further their computer skills," marveled Library Director Sarah Marshall.

More information about the computer classes will be released when information is available.

LIBRARY WINS CONNECTICUT LIBRARY
ASSOCIATION AWARD FOR THE SIXTH TIME

(Kent, Connecticut) - The Kent Memorial Library is proud to announce it is once again, for the sixth time, the recipient of a Connecticut Library Association Publicity Award. This year it has been awarded Outstanding Library Public Relations in the Small Library Category. The winning materials were the invitation and program for the Library's 2018 Annual Spring Gala. The graphics for this annual event were designed by the Library's Marketing and Special Events Director, Lucy C. Pierpont. Woodbury resident, Ms. Pie rpont has worked at the Kent Memorial Library for 9 years and in graphic design & public relations at Klemm Real Estate, with previous experience at Hartwick College, the Litchfield County Times, and her own marketing company based in the greater Waterbury area.

"Lucy continually impresses all of us with her fabulous artistic eye. We are lucky she's on our team," remarked Library Director, Sarah Marshall. "We took advantage of the lovely South Kent School's Farm on North Campus and highlighted one of their goats: Zeus as the symbol of the gala," she continued. Over 300 people attended the hugely successful event that raised funds to support the operations of the Kent Memorial Library.

The winners of these awards were recognized at the Connecticut Library Association Annual Conference at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton in April.
