Orange/Lime/Lemon water - All citrus contains Vitamin C, as well as B vitamins, potassium, and so much more.

Did you know? B vitamins play an essential role in keeping our bodies running like a well-oiled machine by converting our food into fuel.
Lime/Cucumber/Mint - Mint is wonderful for digestive health and has the added bonus of being an on-the-go breath freshener.

Strawberry/Basil/Lemon - Like mint, basil works to freshen breath while both lemons and strawberries are wonderful sources of Vitamin C.

Did you know? Vitamin C is a cofactor in at least eight important enzymatic reactions in humans (and other animals).

Strawberry/Lime/ Cucumber  - Like lemons, limes contain Vitamin C alongside important minerals like Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium!

Did you know? Potassium is an important electrolyte that is essential to the function of several organs, including the heart, kidneys and brain! It also works with sodium to support cellular function, and plays an important role in keeping you hydrated.

Grapefruit/Cucumber/Mint - Too hot to snack? The epitome of refreshing, grapefruit can also operate as an appetite suppressant.

Did you know? Appetite suppressants can be useful in bridging the gap between meals, especially when it's too hot for snacks to sound appetizing.

Lemon/Lime/Blueberry - Blueberries are high in fiber, and rich in antioxidants.

Did you know? Fiber not only improves digestive health, but it can help to lower your odds of things like Type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, heart disease and more. It can also help you to maintain a healthy weight long term.

In addition to being amazing additives to zest up that drinking water, citrus fruits are naturally water dense - meaning simply consuming them is a great way to stay hydrated all summer long.

Each month, Megan will be featuring another wonderful facet of citrus living. Subscribe to  Limoneira's YouTube channel for more information on the many ways this endlessly versatile fruit can improve life inside the home and beyond.

Without further ado, here's how to hydrate Limoneira style; for all combinations below, simply slice up each fruit and/or herb and add to water. The longer the ingredients are in the water, the stronger their flavors will be.

fooddrinkLimoneira Featured in Food and Drink International

The food and beverage industry is inherently social. Sharing experiences dining out, having drinks with friends or attending the grand opening of a hot new restaurant have become  millennial's   and generation Z's new interpretation of luxury.

San Francisco  State University researchers found that people who spend money on experiences rather than material items were happier and felt  good about where their money was spent. Enhancing the customer experience or simply creating one where people least expect it,  such as in a grocery store, can go a long way in terms of loyalty in an an industry that sees very little of that today. Food & Drink International understands that every company affiliated with the food and beverage world has valuable information to bring to the table. They are the only publication that offers executives in the restaurant, retail, production and distribution industries the opportunity to share their ideas, opinions and strategies in a single forum so they can make smart decisions that will benefit their brands. FDI's readership is 280k and 39% are C-Suite Executives.

Their recent issue included an in-depth interview with Limoneira CEO Harold Edwards. Harold discussed the global food industry and Limoneira initiatives for feeding a hungry world with healthy sustainable Limoneira citrus.

grilling July Great Grilling with Grapefruit and Limes

With 4th of July celebrations, picnics and a plethora of plein-air pursuits, grilling adds so much enjoyment to family and friend festivities. Limoneira offers a cascade of citrus and this month we have a couple grapefruit and lime grilling recipes for you to enjoy.

Grilled Grapefruit Halves with Honey, Brown Sugar, and Pistachios

This delicious recipe from Scott Philips notes that the honeyed grapefruit halves have brunch written all over them. Grilling caramelizes the sugar in the fruit, accentuating its sweetness, while pistachios add warm, toasty flavors, and mint and créme fraîche lend bright, refreshing notes.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup honey, preferably orange blossom
  • 2 Tbs. orange liqueur,
  • 2 Limoneira star Ruby grapefruit, cut in half crosswise and scored between segments and around the edges
  • 2 Tbs. packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup salted pistachios, coarsely chopped and toasted
  • 1/2 cup créme fraîche
  • 3 Tbs. thinly sliced fresh mint leaves

Instructions
Combine the honey and orange liqueur in a small bowl. Brush half of the mixture evenly over the cut side of the grapefruit halves.

Heat a cast-iron grill pan on high heat until water instantly evaporates when sprinkled on the pan. Carefully place the grapefruit halves, cut side down, in the pan and cook until grill marks form, about 4 minutes.

Transfer the grapefruit halves to serving plates, drizzle with the remaining honey mixture, and sprinkle with the dark brown sugar and pistachios. Garnish with dollops of crème fraîche and the fresh mint leaves, and serve.

Tyler Florence's Spiced Mixed Grill with Grilled Lime

Tyler Florence is a chef and television host of several Food Network shows. He graduated from the College of Culinary Arts at the Charleston, South Carolina.  He has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in a nationwide Sandwich Showdown. He has appeared a number of times on The Today Show, and has been featured on The View.

His Spiced Mixed Grill with Grilled Lime offers just the right kick with the lime and curry. It's delicious.

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 8 small whole calamari tubes, cleaned, tentacles removed
  • 4 lobster tails, cracked in 1/2
  • 8 prawns, heads and shells on, cut down the back
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 bunches green onions
  • 4 limes, halved
Instructions
Put the curry, cumin, fennel, peppercorns, cayenne, and salt in a spice mill or clean coffee grinder. Grind to a fine powder and set aside.

Rinse the calamari tubes under cool water and pat dry. Split the bodies from top to bottom so you have 2 triangular pieces from each. Put the calamari, lobster, and prawns on a platter and drizzle with a nice dose of olive oil so the seafood is well coated; season with a fair amount of salt and pepper.

Place a large grill pan on 2 burners over medium-high heat or preheat a gas or charcoal grill and get it very hot. Take a few paper towels and fold them several times to make a thick square. Blot a small amount of oil on the paper towel then carefully and quickly wipe the ridges of the grill pan or the hot grates of the grill. Place the lobster on the grill, shell-side up, and cook for 5 minutes until the shell begins to turn reddish-orange. Turn the lobster tails over and lay the calamari, prawns, green onions, and limes (cut-side-down) on the grill too until everything is slightly charred.

Grill the calamari for 2 minutes per side, and no longer, otherwise they will get rubbery.

Put the grilled mixed seafood and green onions on a large platter and sprinkle a little of the spice mix all over. Squeeze the grilled limes over the shellfish and serve immediately.
techTech In Growing - An Integral Part of Limoneira Sustainability Practices

Technological advances have made in-roads into the world of agriculture and at Limoneira tech has enabled the company to yield more from precious natural resources. Drones are used to monitor tree health and water probes part of the Company's innovative water management practices.

Soil Moisture probes measure volumetric water content and are connected to data loggers utilized in the irrigation control system. Soil Moisture Stations log water data and send it to the main controller. Each station has a radio unit powered by a solar panel. There are three sensors connected to each station under wetted area at specified soil depths with one station located in each block. The irrigation control system receives data from the sensor stations and it is uploaded from the controller to the internet and can be viewed remotely from a cell phone or a computer.

AGQ Vacuum Tubes are used to capture water as it passes through soil at three different depths (8",16",24" - 3 tubes per station). The captured water can be analyzed for fertilizer concentrations and other materials injected through the irrigation system at each depth.

Water with appropriate fertilizer quantity to desired root zone depths is monitored and moisture sensors determine when orchards are at full water holding capacity, thus reducing runoff and wasted water.

Dual line drip hoses are also used to enable water to penetrate through the soil to create a deep and sturdy root system and help reduce weed and herbicide use.
KrogerKroger to Pilot Unmanned Grocery Delivery Vehicles

Kroger, one of the country's largest grocery retailers (and a Limoneira customer, sees autonomous delivery in the future of the online grocery experience.

On June 28th, Kroger announced that it plans to pilot unmanned road vehicles for grocery delivery under a partnership with Nuro, a Mountain View, Calif.-based robotics and artificial intelligence specialist.

Slated to begin this fall, the test will enable customers to place grocery orders through Kroger's ClickList system and Nuro's app and have their items delivered the same day by a fleet of autonomous vehicles. Kroger said it will announce the pilot market soon.

"We are incredibly excited about the potential of our innovative partnership with Nuro to bring the future of grocery delivery to customers today," said Kroger Chief Digital Officer Yael Cosset in a statement. "As part of Restock Kroger, we have already started to redefine the grocery customer experience and expand the coverage area for our anything, anytime and anywhere offering. Partnering with Nuro, a leading technology company, will create customer value by providing Americans access to fast and convenient delivery at a fair price."

Kroger and Nuro expect the test to "change the status quo of grocery delivery" through the combination of the supermarket retailer's reach - 2,800 stores in 35 states - and the use of groundbreaking technology. The companies said the pilot will mark the first application and deployment of Nuro's hardware and software.

"Unmanned delivery will be a game-changer for local commerce, and together with Kroger we're thrilled to test this new delivery experience to bring grocery customers new levels of convenience and value," commented Nuro co-founder Dave Ferguson. "Our safe, reliable and affordable service, combined with Kroger's ubiquitous brand, is a powerful first step in our mission to accelerate the benefits of robotics for everyday life."

SnapSnap-Crackle-Pop-Fourth of July Fireworks Light Up Santa Paula Sky

There will be plenty of bombs bursting in air over Santa Paula  on the Fourth of July, marking the official - and legal - celebration  of America's Independence, a light show that will be visible  throughout the city.

Celebrants of the most important  day that started it all for the United States can attend the  Fireworks Spectacular at Harding Park, located in the 1400 block  of West Harvard Boulevard, for free, or watch from various points  on hillsides throughout the city. The celebration starts at 9  p.m.

Midtown also offers fireworks viewing, but the farther  west you are, the less you'll be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of  the pyrotechnic spectacular. The Fireworks Spectacular is  again courtesy of the Fireworks Committee, the city of Santa  Paula and the community that generously supports the approximately  $17,000 cost of the patriotic  display. Money-raising for the event ranges from donations  and sponsorships by businesses and individuals to spare change  dropped into cans displayed on merchant counters leading up  to the event.
