Cures4Cats Day ~

As summer days are coming to a close, Winn Feline Foundation is gearing up for our 2018  Cures4Cats Day on Saturday, October 20th.

This is Winn's  annual day of awareness dedicated to highlighting Winn-funded research, the critical need for evidence-based medicine, early-stage biomedical research, and health answers involving cats.

This year, to support our Cures4Cats awareness program and celebrate our 50th anniversary, Winn Feline Foundation will be launching a new campaign to find answers for feline kidney disease (FKD).

Feline Heart Disease in the News

Winn's July 2018 e-newsletter and a recent article by Winn board member, Steve Dale, highlight Dr. Philip Fox, head of cardiology and director of the Caspary Research Institute and Education Outreach at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, as this year's recipient of the AVMA/Winn Feline Foundation Excellence in Feline Research Award.

Dr. Fox was the principal Investigator of a multi-year Winn-funded study W09-017, titled "Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM): Five-year outcomes and risk assessment". His research is the center of a large nine-year international epidemiological study to better understand the risk of HCM in cats. The study included 1,730 cats from 50 veterinary centers in 21 countries.

This research study will have significant impact regarding what we know about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats. Results have been published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine (JVIM) and Winn's Cat Health News Blog has summarized the findings. An epidemiological study of this size offers future additional information about other concurrent health conditions (cancer, chronic kidney disease, etc.) in these cats.
