COLLEGE NEWS
FROM THE DEAN
Thank you to each of you who made our Open House event such a success on Friday!

It is such a privilege to lead this college, not only because of the deserved accolades for accomplishments our students and faculty, but especially because of the character, integrity and grit of our members. Continue to hold each other high and expect excellence from yourselves and each other.

This week, we will present to you a remarkable opportunity to observe and participate in the selection process of a firm who will work with us on revisions to our building (to enhance the Library space and provide additional studios). Look for an email from me in the next day or so, and hold your calendar for October 31.

Best,
Kathy
ADVISING CORNER
Last Day to Withdraw From a Course

The Advising Staff would like to remind faculty and students that the last day to WITHDRAW from one or more full semester courses for fall 2019 is Friday, November 15 th.

A few things you should know about “Withdrawing” from a course include:

·NEVER withdraw from a course without checking with your advisor first.
·Be sure to discuss with Scholarships and Financial Aid the impact withdrawing will have on your scholarships and aid packages.
·Be sure to discuss with University Housing how withdrawing may impact your housing eligibility.
·If your full-time or part-time enrollment is verified to receive discounts on your medical/car insurance or your parents’ health and auto insurance, withdrawing from classes may affect your eligibility for continued discounts.

If you have questions about withdrawing from a course, please stop in and see a member of our advising staff.

Engagement

Being engaged in college doesn’t just mean participating in class. Being engaged means getting involved in a variety of activities. Find the things the interest you both within and outside of your major and get involved. You’ll have a much more satisfying college experience if you do. Engaging in organizations and activities outside of your coursework helps you to build the necessary skills that can be hard to gain in the classroom. Develop your leadership skills by taking on a leadership position within a student organization. Get research experience by participating in UCARE. Give back to the community by participating in The Big Event in the spring. These are the types of skills and experiences that really set you apart when applying for internships and jobs. The Student Success Office can help you find ways to engage in your college education in ways that are exciting and interesting to you.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
Today’s reflection is about giving back. Our primary mission, of course, is to educate future landscape architects, but this education is not limited to professional knowledge alone. A successful graduate from our program should be a whole and fully engaged person. Among the many things this implies is the notion of being a good citizen. Twice a year the college is fortunate to have our Professional Advisory Board come back to the college to share their experience and insight. Many of these people have gone the extra mile to endow faculty chairs and student scholarships. More-
INTERIOR DESIGN
We find ourselves at the halfway point in the semester! It is hard to believe that in just seven weeks we will be celebrating your accomplishments at final reviews. It also means that many studios have completed their first round of studio projects which I am going to share with you in this letter.
