JANUARY 2021
"New year, new you" is a common catchphrase heard in January, and it's never more true than at Valley Humane Society right now! We're on our way with nary a hitch in our get along, after sending home a record number of animals (915!) last year, despite coronavirus circumstances. Take a peek at some of the changes to start the year, and stay with us for a purpose-filled, mission-driven, hopeful 2021.

The Love is Still Priceless
On February 1, after almost a decade at the same rates, we are rolling out some revisions to our adoption fee schedule. While the cost of preparing an animal for adoption is still far greater than the fees reflect, these increases will allow us to continue providing dogs and cats with the best care possible. We're excited to announce, for the first time, a special rate for adopted kitten pairs; we'll also be continuing our Seniors for Seniors discount program. Thank you for your help as we work together to create a brighter future for dogs and cats in our community.
Leading the Way Forward
2021 is already shaping up to be a year full of exciting changes, among them new leadership on our Board of Directors. We welcome Sandra Gardiner as our new Board Chair. Sandy has served on the Executive Committee since January 2019; she is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Pulse Biosciences, Inc. in Hayward, and a lifelong animal lover who focuses her spare time volunteering in a variety of community and special needs programs related to animals. We also welcome Penelope Tamm as the newest member of our board. Penelope is a licensed MFT who recently retired from the City of Pleasanton after serving the community for more than 30 years. Read the full announcement, and meet all the dedicated Board members who will navigate this exciting new year at our side.

Save the Date!
Last year brought many changes and this year we have one of our own: our annual Tails at Twilight gala, previously held every March, has a new date! Save Friday, October 29, 2021 for this annual magical celebration of the shared bond between people and pets. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!
"Pup" Your Ride
Need to rid yourself of an old ride? Donate your vehicle to help local dogs and cats! Fill out the quick and easy online form, and our car donation processor will take care of the rest.  Any car, boat, or RV is eligible and it need not be operational. In addition to all the lives you're helping to save, it's also tax deductible for you.
Past the Test
Also new this year, cats and kittens will no longer undergo FELV/FIV testing as part of our adoption intake process. Our veterinarian feels these tests are best done by the adopter's vet. Many factors informed this decision, such as the inconclusive nature of results, which can lead to multiple retests and prolong length of stay.
