The Illinois Municipal League’s 105 th Annual Conference will be held September 20-22, 2018. This Conference provides elected officials and staff three days of educational and networking opportunities that provides advantages to address issues facing our community.
There are 13 different tracks providing sessions for Clerks, Economic Development, Finance, Human Resources, Risk Management and Round Table sessions to name a few. Continuing education classes for Open Meeting Acts (OMA) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to ensure we are compliant with updates. I am proud to say the Village has never had a violation regarding these two acts. Also, there are 141 exhibitors in the Exhibition Hall to showcase the latest products, services and technologies.

I can tell you the challenges facing Round Lake are not unique to just us. I enjoy the opportunity to network with so many Mayors getting ideas and information to address those challenges.

I f you have any comments, questions or ideas you would like to see included in the e-newsletter, please email me at  dmacgillis@eroundlake.com.

                      Sincerely,
                                                  Mayor Dan MacGillis

We Would Like Your Opinion!
The Village governments of Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, and Round Lake Park have contracted with the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University to conduct a survey of residents. The survey will determine residents’ opinions of Village government provided services and identify the highest priority service areas. The findings of the survey will help the Village governments plan for the future.

A random selection of households have been selected to participate in the survey. If your household receives the survey in the mail or via an email, please take a few minutes to complete it. Your responses to the survey are very important to us. Your responses will be confidential. All information provided will be reported in summary form only. No information will be reported that will identify individual survey respondents.

Thank you for your participation.
Route 120 and Wilson Road
The Village owns 57 acres at the southwest corner of Route 120 and Wilson Road. The Village purchased this land with the intent it would facilitate commercial development. After a proposed development fell through, the Village continued to look for ways to attract development. Starting in September CDHS, LLC will be leasing the property and filling the property, conducting a concrete recycling and composting operation on site. The north half of the property will be filled with clean fill to provide a level site for future commercial development. The south half of the site will preserve the existing wetlands on site and add a storm water retention pond. At the end of the lease, the land will be more attractive to developers as the site will be buildable, have some landscaping and storm water infrastructure in place.
Village Board Approves New Catholic Charities Community Center
The Village and greater community will soon benefit from Catholic Charities offering more services for seniors and those in need.

The Catholic Charities development had a lot of public interest and all in attendance at the Planning Commission and the Village Board meetings had the opportunity to hear the presentation and provide comments. Based on Public input the Plan Commission added conditions to their recommendation of approval to enhance the development for the betterment of the community.

The mission of Catholic Charities “is to provide service to people in need, to advocate for justice in social structures, and to call the entire church and other people of good will to do the same.” The services provided at the Round Lake location may include: space for group activities, social support, public information, recreation, senior services, counseling, food pantry, clothing room, office space and dining space. For more information on Catholic Charities or to utilize their services visit www.catholiccharities.net

Code Enforcement FAQ's
Q) If I put my bags of landscape waste at the curb will the Village send someone out to pick it up?
A) Residents are responsible for properly disposing of their landscape waste. Please contact Waste Management at 1-800-796-9696 for more information. The Village does not provide any type of pick-up services for landscape waste or refuse.

Q) Can you run a business out of your home in Round Lake?
A) There are a number of requirements that must be followed for the business to be approved. Please see the Village website to view the application and Village code for requirements.

Q) The tree in the parkway is dead, can I remove it?
A) The Village of Round Lake maintains an Urban Forest Management Program meant to provide guidelines for the care and maintenance of the nearly 6,000 Village owned trees, including parkway trees, throughout Round Lake. This plan also lays out goals and approaches for tree trimming, tree removals and tree replacements. The plan was updated in August of 2017 to better address parkway tree re-planting work.

Residents are allowed to replant a tree in the parkway as long as they file a permit with the Community Development Department and chose a tree from the list of approved species . No permit fee will be assessed for parkway tree planting. Any tree removal, even on private property, does require a tree removal permit from the Community Development Department, prior to removal.
