National Association of Home Builders Index

The NAHB [National Association of Home Builders] put out a press release stating that "Sentiment levels have held at a solid range in the low- to mid-60s for the past five months."

Current Demand
Current demand for single-family homes continues to remain strong, while builders report that certain development and construction costs are rising.

In one respect, the higher costs for skilled labor, the increased prices for materials and the on-going shortage of buildable lots is being offset by lower mortgage rates and an easing of buyer demand, especially in the luxury price range.

2019 Outlook
NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz stated, "And while new home sales picked up in March and April, builders continue to grapple with excessive regulations, a shortage of lots and lack of skilled labor that are hurting affordability and depressing supply."

The NAHB Housing Market Index [HMI] gauges builder perceptions of current single-family home sales and sales expectations for the next six months with three designations: "good," "fair" or "poor." The index/survey queries builders to rate traffic of prospective buyers as "high to very high," "average" or "low to very low." Scores for each component are used in the calculation of a seasonally adjusted index where any number over 50 indicates that more builders view conditions as good than poor.

Presently, the three-month moving averages for regional HMI scores indicates:

■ the Northeast with a three-point gain to 60
■ the Midwest increased by three points to 57
■ the West remained at a healthy 71
■ while the South fell one point to 67

New Jersey: The Summer Destination

In 2019, the summer solstice will occur on Friday, June 21, at 11:54 A.M. EDT. This marks the official beginning of summer as the Northern Hemisphere points itself toward the sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. By longest "day," it means the longest period of sunlight. This marks the start of summer in the northern hemisphere.

On June 20th, we got approximately 15 hours of sunlight.
June through September marks the busiest time for tourism in New Jersey. Here are 8 of the most popular summer tourist destinations:

1. The lighthouses.
A reminder of New Jersey's rich maritime heritage, historic lighthouses along the coastline are not only picturesque - they're pieces of American history. Take a tour of Sandy Hook Lighthouse (Highlands), the oldest working lighthouse in the country, built in 1764, or take your pick from one of the many other lighthouses in New Jersey.

2. The beaches and boardwalks.
With more than 130 miles of coastline, New Jersey has every type of beach you could want - from quiet and serene, to family-friendly and the social scene. Bordering the beaches are the world-famous boardwalks : pedestrian walkways lined with restaurants, shops, open-air bars, kid-approved attractions and beachfront hotels.

3. Wine tasting.
Escape to the Garden State's countryside to discover rolling hillsides covered in grape vines at one of the many wineries and vineyards. You can enjoy wine tasting in one of the charming tasting rooms throughout the state, and then take in the beautiful views with a vineyard tour.
