Students create awareness through art
Providence students are helping draw attention to the plight of the more than 25 million displaced refugees worldwide by taking part in an international art project. Art teacher Mrs. Donna Burden is leading the effort to have every student add at least one stitch to a fabric panel. The panels will later be sent to the 25 Million Stitches Project in California, where they will be sewn together with other panels stitched by people around the world. Mrs. Burden has also reached out to several Deanery schools to encourage their participation in the project as well.

“The goal is to get as many people aware and involved as possible,” Mrs. Burden said. “It's a big undertaking.”

Mrs. Burden said she is glad the students can take part in the project and see how art can be a tool to bring awareness to various issues. She also sees it as an opportunity for students to look past their own troubles and pray for someone else in greater need.

“Teens are often in their own little bubble,” she said. “But this is a way to show them that even if you have tough things going on, others are going something worse, so have a heart and pray for them.”

Providence was featured in the most recent 25 Million Stitches Project newsletter for its efforts to organize a school-wide project along with a school in the Dominican Republic and one in California.

ALUMNI NOTES
NCYC volunteers needed
Do you remember the time you went to NCYC or were not able to go due to another conflict? Now is the chance to go even though you may be out of high school. Volunteer and give back to current high school youth.

From Nov. 21-23 more than 20,000 Catholic teenagers assemble at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium to express their love of Christ and show the strength of their faith at the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC). It truly is an awe-inspiring and life-changing event—not just for those youth in attendance, but also for the nearly 1000 volunteers needed to successfully support this event! Can you share a few hours of your time? After you volunteer you can stay and experience the conference yourself - visit the thematic village where there are areas to shop for catholic items, talk to those in vocations, and just experience something or attend a break out session or general session in Lucas Oil Stadium. You are invited to attend closing mass on Saturday night as well in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Please check out these links below to find out more and sign up to volunteer!
