Your July and August News & Updates
|
Do you love music? I sure do. Even if you don't think of yourself as a singer, I would bet that you still love to hear great music. I cannot imagine life without a song. Think about it? Your best friends are gathered around. There's a cake. What do these friends do? They sing to you. And you remember.
If you are married or are in a significant relationship, do you remember the song that was on the radio on that first car ride together? Do you two have a special song?
You're happy and in the shower. Words come out of your mouth with a melody attached. It's halftime at a football game. A band plays. It's the seventh inning of a baseball game. Everybody sings. On the podium at the Olympics or anytime you are celebrating with members of the armed services, they raise a flag while the national anthem plays. Every tender movie scene is backed by strings or a song.
The great moments of our lives all have music. Songs move and motivate us. They stick in our minds. If I were to sing a single bar of a great tune for you right now, you'd remember it for a while. If I were to sing a single bar of "It's a Small World" right now, you'd remember it far longer than you'd like to. When God made us, he made us to love music. He wired us for sound. So, when God wrote to us, he had to include music. That music is found in the middle of our Bibles in the Psalms.
This summer beginning on July 7th we will study some of the 150 songs of praise in the Book of Psalms. We won't cover them all, but you might want to read them all while we're on this adventure. The Psalms are the iTunes of our faith. I am really looking forward to sharing ONE Worship at 10 am with you this summer and these GODSONG worship services.
My thanks to the wonderful leadership that put together our Youth Sunday and ROAR! VBS Bible School Sunday. The future of the faith is in great hands with these kids and youth. And by the way, did you notice that music played a big role in both of those worship services? Indeed, God wired us for sound.
En Agape',
Michael
