4th of July Celebration - Thursday, July 4

Stay local and enjoy a relaxing, fun, and FREE July 4th celebration featuring games, patriotic arts and craft activities, balloon artists, food vendors, and more. The event kicks off at 6:30pm on the Bready Park softball field. Live entertainment featuring Guys In Thin Ties, a high-energy, totally-awesome band who perform songs from the 80's. There is still time to register for Summer Camps!

New sessions begin next week. Get started by reading our Summer Programs, Camps, and Events Guide, printed copies are available in the HCC. The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department provides fun-filled summer camps and programs! Campers can unplug and play, make new friends, and learn additional skills. Our camps are designed to provide entertainment and enrichment for a few hours, a half-day or a full-day.

Everyone is invited to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month in July. Meet our Parks and Recreation Staff on the Town Hall Square, 730 Elden St. Bring the whole family, meet members of your community, and enjoy some PLAY time. Free activities and no registration is required.

WIFI Available in the HCC

We are happy to offer free WIFI in the HCC. While you are inside the building, you can connect through the HerndonParkandRecGuest network and no password is required.
HCC Summer Hours and Unlimited Visits Pass Sale

The HCC Sunday operation hours for the summer are in-effect. Sunday hours will be 10am-6pm. After Labor Day, Sunday hours will return to 7am-6pm.

Enjoy unlimited visits now through August 23. This is a great deal for people who want to work on their health and fitness goals and for college students home for the summer. Admission to the HCC has many benefits; take a Drop-In Fitness class, swim, sit in the sauna or relax in the hot tub, and much more. Adults, TOH $125/NR $175 or Seniors, Youth, and Students, TOH $100/NR $135. Passes are available for purchase at the HCC.
Farmers' Market Fun Days

On Thursdays, the Herndon Farmers' Market, is open 8am-12:30pm, and has fresh produce, baked goods, special promotions, and a variety of live entertainment:

Farmers' Market Fun Days, features puppet shows, singers, jugglers, storytellers, and more. Each show begins at 10:30am and is held on the Town Hall Square, 730 Elden Street, July 11-August 29. View the full schedule.

Kings Dominion & Soak City Discounted Tickets

The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department is now selling 2019 Kings Dominion & Soak City discounted tickets in conjunction with the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society.

There are two ticket options:
1. Good Any Day - $41 valid any 2019 park operating day except park rental days
2. Super Saver Day - $39 valid on the following dates except park rental days:
  • Now-May 19, July 5-July 31, and September 21-October 27
Tickets are for ages 3 & up. There are no returns for online sales. Ticket prices do not include parking.

Herndon Kids Triathlon - Registration Opens July 1

The Herndon Kids Triathlon registration usually sells out. This event is designed for any youth, age 6-16, regardless of athletic ability or prior triathlon experience. The courses and distances were created to be achievable for all participants. The philosophy is completion rather than competition. We want all our young tri-athletes to walk away from the event with a sense of pride in knowing that they completed a triathlon. Every participant receives a medal when they cross the finish line. Sign up your young athlete starting July 1.
Friends of Runnymede Bird Walk

On the second Saturday of each month, the Friends of Runnymede will host a bird walk in Runnymede Park. Join them on Saturday, July 13 at 8am. Meet in the parking lot. Bring binoculars, or borrow a pair of theirs. Free and no registration required.
Preschool, 2019-2020 School Year Registration

Exciting new changes are coming to the Herndon Community Center Preschool. Now ages 4 & 5 will meet daily Monday through Friday, 9am-12pm, with an emphasis on skills needed to enter kindergarten, plus field trips, outside free play, music, swimming and holiday activities to celebrate diversity in our classroom. Children must be 4 by September 30, 2019.

Preschool Prep will focus on ages 3 & 4 and they will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3pm.

Our interactive, play-based curriculum fosters your child’s sense of responsibility and independence through daily activities. Parents and children love our outdoor courtyard for play, games, and arts & crafts, while enjoying on-site access to a full-sized gymnasium, large outdoor playground and indoor swimming pool. The program will run September 9-June 12 (generally following Fairfax County Public School schedule)
