Message from the President - Jim Keating
Greetings!

I recently returned from a wonderful, immersive five days of music at   Provincetown CabaretFest 2019. Past president Kevin Luey, members Marilyn Dale and Gail Leondar-Wright, and I attended performances, masterclasses, and open mics. I had the chance to see and connect with performers Nicolas King, Marieann Meringolo, Jeff Wright Jeff Macauley, Warren Schein, and BACA founder Brian De Lorenzo. Sharon McKnight performed and received the Lifetime Acheivement Award, accompanied by last year's honoree and performer Carol O'Shaughnessy. The weekend helped strengthen connections of performers and artists from New York, Boston, and Cape Cod. Mark your calendars for May 27-31, 2020 for a tribute to the 70s!

While there, I had several chats with Scott Barbarino, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of NiteLife Exchange and he believes cabaret is ready to have a resurgence. The feeling of a live performance connection is rich and cannot be duplicated through technology. I hope to deepen those connections.

The BACA Board is looking to focus on membership growth and improved member relations. We have a small but dedicated Board committed to furthering the art of cabaret in the area. Look for more events such as another Masterclass in the fall!

I hope to see you at our Open Mics (returning July 24th) and other events. I appreciate all our members and supporters.

Yours in music and self-expression,
Jim Keating, President
BACA Members are BUSY!
June Is Bustin' Out All Over!
All of these wonderful events happened just in June, some still to come. What talented, giving, and fun-lovin' artists!
  • Jim Porcella will be singing Sinatra and more July 31 and Aug 28 at Padavano's in Worcester. Jim's looking forward to performing at the Central Mass Jazz festival in Worcester with Mike Renzi at Noon, June 22. Go get 'em, Jim!
  • Lisa Kantor is keeping busy in the Berkshires at the Gateways Inn Piano Lounge. Keep an eye on her postings.
  • Scott Barbarino has been keeping us up to date on the PtownNiteLife. And, Scott shared a link to help us stay up with future of the arts and arts funding in the US as impacted by the upcoming election. You can check it out on the FB page.
  • Jan Peters does a fabulous job of keeping us aware of what's happening at Boston's hot hotspot -  Club Cafe. Roderick Ferguson was tearing it up, again! Andy Lantz with Frankie Campofelice also delight with classic jazz standards. And, Valerie Sneade will perform June 24.
  • John McDonald is doing his usual bang up effort to promote music on the Southshore. What a dynamo! He's got fun opportunities posted on the BACA FB page, so be sure to check out his posts if you're looking for a gig. His cruises are selling out. He's also seeking solo and duo artists, music directors, and singers for other projects.
  • Jim Keating, Linda Marks, Bob Bond, Kevin Luey, Scott B. have all been sharing great pics (Bob, you're amazing) and the stellar good times from our very own Provincetown CabaretFest. If you haven't been in awhile, you have got to go next June. Save the dates, plan ahead! Total fabulous, esp. with the NYC crowd in town.
  • Our beloved and much missed Bill Duffy was in town at the Regattabar with Boston's Dane Vannatter (vox), David Landoni (bass), and George Farrell (drums). Harriet Goldberg also gave us the heads up on this event. We wish you all the best, Bill!!
  • Joe Reid (piano), Dan Fox (bass), and Miki Matsuki (drums) were cluing us all in on the Boston Jazz Singer Showcase having a new Open Mic at the Town Tavern in Arlington. The next one is there on  Tues., July 16.

  • Linda Marks and Mary Crowe were part of the "Women In Music Gathering" at the Hearing Room in Lowell.
  • Linda Marks had a fun interview with Citywide Blackout discussing her 6/23 show at City Winery Boston. You can listen to the podcast. And, did you notice she has another CD release show in October at The Burren, Somerville? The grass does not grow under her feet!
  • The amazing Bobby Gadoury was at Nuovo's Restaurant & Piano Bar and plays the Sunday Jazz Series at Connecticut's Grill 37, June 23. Go Bobby!
  • Helen Kemeny performed "A Hymn to Her" with Salome Smith, Brianna LaShay, and Yewande Odetoyinbo, paying musical tribute to the women who wrote and composed for Broadway, in Josephine's in the Napoleon Room at Club Cafe.

  • Jim Keating shared an important note about the need for volunteers to help BACA help you. Thank you for being there.
  • Will McMillan and Joe Reid returned to "Not Just Another Coffeehouse" in Sharon for a fabulous program of songs written for or strongly associated with Judy Garland. No one sings it like Will!
