Third Grade ELA Ohio State Tests
Third grade students will be taking part one and two of the English Language Arts test on
Monday, October 21st and Tuesday October 22nd.

By helping your child become physically and mentally prepared, you are helping them lower any feelings of test anxiety.  Test anxiety is a very common experience; however, with some preparation, can be reduced and improve their performance.

Please help your son/daughter prepare by:

  • Getting an adequate night's sleep (8-10 hours)
  • Wake up on time to avoid rushing and arrive to school on time
  • Eat a nutritious breakfast
  • Reminding them to listen closely to all directions and read the directions carefully
  • Answer questions they know first, and come back to the harder questions later

When your child feels confident in their test taking skills, they will have less test anxiety and be able to focus on doing their best and showing what they have learned.

Make-Up Testing dates:   October 23rd and 25th

Family and Community Engagement (FACE)
Hi Fairview families,

With the end of the first quarter coming to a close in two weeks, hopefully everyone has established expectations  with their child on the following:

1) Sleep - bed times
2) Technology limitations ( see Common Sense website for a family contract).
3) Time each school night to spend 30 minutes or more on homework, studying for future tests or re- reading information.
4) Making sure your child is getting enough activity

All of the above factors can contribute to how well your child is doing in school and preparing for life!

Remember, any questions or concerns... email/contact your child's mentor teacher (6-12) or home room teacher (K-5).

PLEASE pencil in the date of October 28 to attend the Parent University on Drugs, Alcohol and Vaping!! Lots of information for ALL parents!

Third Grade Field Trip
On October 31st, the third graders at Gilles-Sweet will be taking a walking field trip down West 220th Street to see some of the historical homes in Fairview Park.  As a part of our social studies curriculum, we are learning about how Fairview Park has changed over time and the history of our historical homes. We will be leaving at 10:00 and the walking tour should last around an hour to an hour and a half.  We will be back in time for our regular lunch in the cafeteria.

Coin Challenge
Dear Families,

Our PTA  is collecting funds for our All for Books program November 4-8.

By donating $1 or loose change you can help us:

* Purchase books for classroom libraries
* Give more children easier access to books
* Help get more kids reading, and kids reading more

The All for Books money we collect also helps readers beyond our school and community. Scholastic Book FairsĀ® matches monetary donations with a donation of up to $1 million in books from The Scholastic Possible Fund, which distributes books to children in need through organizations such as Kids In Need Foundation, Delivering Good, and the National Center for Families Learning.

We are having a "Coin Challenge" contest between the classrooms!  For every $5 that each classroom collects they will receive a raffle ticket to win a new wobble seat.  The classroom that collects the most total amount in each grade also gets a popsicle party! Please send your dollars or loose change donation in the week of November 4-8 .  Your act of kindness helps bring more knowledge, imagination, and a love for reading into the lives of our students.

Sincerely,

Gilles-Sweet PTA
