Last week, District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins sponsored an item on the Board of County Commissioners agenda for the County to take all actions necessary to construct a bridge that would extend SW 87th Avenue from SW 164 Street to SW 163rd Street.

The item passed and will now go to the Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) for further consideration and public input. Shortly after the item passed, Mayor Meerbott discussed the importance for the construction of the bridge through this video, which highlights some of the connectivity and traffic concerns that our community faces daily.

In order for the South Dade community to come together and speak to each other, Commissioner Cohen Higgins has asked the Mayors of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay to each appoint four residents (for a total of 8 residents) to serve on the Community Connectivity Committee. The purpose of the committee is for residents with opposing views about the bridge to exchange relevant facts and perspectives—in hopes of educating and reducing misinformation. It will provide a structured forum for the public to be heard.
