The free event features interactive exhibits of the area's flood risk reduction and coastal restoration projects, and panel discussions on topics such as levees and floodgates, structure elevations and marsh/barrier island restoration.
Representatives of the Terrebonne, North Lafourche and South Lafourche levee districts will be present, as well as local and state agencies, advocacy groups and businesses involved in coastal activities.

State Commits $23.5 Million for Local Floodgate and Levee Projects
|
The state will pay
$18.5 million to construct the Grand Bayou Floodgate between eastern Terrebonne and northern Lafourche, Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) Board Chairman Chip Kline announced in April.
The floodgate will fill the largest gap in the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection System between Reaches K and L and link the Terrebonne and Lafourche parish levee systems. The floodgate is expected to be complete before the 2021 hurricane season. CPRA's investment is provided through the state's share of
Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds.
"Morganza Action Coalition is grateful to Governor John Bel Edwards and his executive assistant for coastal activities, Chip Kline, for their continued support of the Morganza to the Gulf levee system," said MAC President Jay Walker.
The state has also committed
$5 million to the South Lafourche Levee District for improvements to the Larose to Golden Meadow levee system.
"So why does CPRA keep investing in this region, why do you as locals, keep taxing yourselves and investing in this region,
why does industry continue to invest in this region? It's because this region matter. It matters to our state, it matters to the Gulf Coast and it matters to our country as a whole," Kline explained at a meeting of the South Central Industrial Association on April 16.

the 2019 John W. Woodard Award at the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center Rougarou Ball on May 4.
The award honors
Dupre for his years of
service
to the preservation and restoration of coastal Louisiana.

LA Coastal Chief: Morganza to the Gulf is Most Effective Flood Protection Project

LA CPRA Board Chairman and Executive Assistant to the Governor of Louisiana for Coastal Activities Chip Kline testified at a
U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing May 8 on the U.S. Corps of Engineers' Civil Works Program.
In his testimony, Kline recognized the
Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection Project as the "single most effective flood control project" identified in the state's Coastal Master Plan.
"Morganza to the Gulf has been supported by the State with over $210 million in funding and by the locals with $234 million in funding.
It has not received a single dime for construction funding from the federal government," Kline said.
He called on the federal government to support Louisiana's proactive approach to coastal protection and restoration, and to arm the Corps with resources to carry out that mission.

Association of Levee Boards of Louisiana Workshop on May 2 in Baton Rouge. President Jay Walker and managing associate Melissa Cloutet
manned the MAC booth, while representatives of our local levee districts attended meetings and presentations with other levee boards across the state.

Today, MAC advocates for comprehensive levee protection for Terrebonne & Lafourche Parishes.
MAC relies on financial contributions from local businesses and individuals to support these advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. and in Baton Rouge, as well as to fund outreach and communication activities to gain public support for the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection System and levee projects in North and South Lafourche.
