Natick Center Creative Placemaking Weekend
|
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), Natick Center Cultural District and the Town of Natick are excited to announce the winners for the Call for Creatives – a proposal to transform public spaces in Natick Center, specifically the Town Common, Moran Park and the pedestrian bridge over the Natick Center Commuter Rail Station and Adams St.
From the many applications submitted to the Call, 6 finalists were selected by a juried process involving members of the Natick Center
Associates’ Public Art Committee and members of the Natick Center Creative Placemaking Advisory
Group. The projects range in scale and imagination.
Each of the 6 artists will be awarded up to $1500 for their project that have the potential to transform a designated space within Natick Center to become more relevant to residents and those who live outside the town, interactive, inclusive, sustainable and bold. To view submissions please visit the
NCCD website.
All the public art installations and performances will be showcased at a Call for Creatives demonstration weekend on November 3-4, 2018 in Natick Center with a reception event on Nov. 4th from 4-6 pm at the Common St. Spiritual Center.
The temporary art work will be displayed for a period of 1-2 weeks following this kick-off event.
The Call for Creatives initiative is part of the Natick Center Creative Placemaking Strategy and Demonstration Project that is being produced for the Town of Natick by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). The goal of the plan is to improve the breadth and quality of arts and cultural experiences in public places within Natick Center.

The Cochituate Rail Trail reached a milestone in September when MassDOT put the project out to bid. Contractors have until November 27 to submit proposals. After a bidder is elected, it will be a few months before they are on site.
Work should start in the spring of 2019 and be done late 2020. Timing is subject to change, but for the latest information visit
natickma.gov/crt
. When completed, the trail will run from Willow Street in Natick to Saxonville in Framingham. In the future, the Town plans to work with the MBTA and MassDOT to make a connection from the Natick Center MBTA Station, once that is redesigned and rebuilt to be fully accessible. That’s in the pipeline and we should know more about that project in the coming months.
