EXCERPTS FROM
ACCREDITATION ANNUAL REPORT
IMPROVING STUDENT LEARNING

Action Plan Goals #3 and 3a:
To develop a clearly articulated and aligned curriculum map for mathematics.
Take necessary steps to begin the curriculum mapping process for Religion and Language Arts upon successful completion of Goal #3.

Star Math and Star Reading Benchmark Tests have been implemented. Students took math and reading benchmarks in September, January, and May. Data was collected and disaggregated by teachers and used to create different student groupings for level one intervention in the classroom, and to progress monitor students.

In 4th grade the Star math results, were used to split the students into different math classes. Teachers received professional development on understanding and using the Star Assessment Data to differentiate instruction and progress monitor.

Teachers in grades 5 through 8 worked together with the administration to create separate blocks for language arts and literature to reflect the way they were presented in the permanent records. The standards grouped them together as a single ELA entry. The decision was made so the blocks more accurately reflected the amount of work that students do and carried more weight than other classes such as specials.

Action Plan Goal #5:
Incorporate instructional strategies that require students to demonstrate their use of higher order thinking.

STEM is implemented through science in grades K-8.  Students ITBS scores show consistent scores above the national average on Essential Competencies, Conceptual Understanding, and Extended Reasoning.
