We are pleased to welcome the 2019 Switzer Fellows to the Switzer Fellowship Network, which now numbers over 650 Fellows! The 2019 Fellows are tackling issues from many sides - science, law, policy, advocacy - and at the community to the national level. We are proud, humbled, and honored to have these emerging leaders join the Switzer Network. We look forward to learning from them, and we encourage alumni to read their bios and reach out to them individually if any of the new Fellows are working on your issue, or an issue that complements yours, or if you have connections that would be valuable for them. Additionally, we will be reaching out to alums in the coming weeks about providing any needed coaching, mentoring or networking for the new Fellows.

Happy trails to Lissa!
Last week, we had a staff send-off for Lissa since this coming Friday, June 28th, is her last day. (And we were joined by our good friend Don Brackett, whom most of you will remember!) We say "happy trails" quite literally, since we know Lissa will be taking advantage of the outdoor playground that is Maine! We wish her well, and look forward to continuing to hear from her as a Fellow. We also look forward to introducing you all to Sarah Reed once she starts on July 8th! Stay tuned!

Have you been interested in improving your ability to tell an interesting story, to draw people into your work and why it's important? Well, just a reminder, we can support Fellows' participation in next month's virtual training with The Goodman Center, "
Storytelling: Tapping the Power of Narrative"! One-hour interactive sessions are scheduled for July 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 30th, and all will be recorded if you can't make one. The Goodman Center is offering discounted registration fees for Switzer Fellows and if needed, we can cover the cost of your fee through a Professional Development Grant. Contact

Amanda Beal: Developing a Robust Regional Food Economy
With Fellow Amanda Beal at the helm of Maine's Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources, the state is uniquely positioned to push forward into the role of regional breadbasket. Amanda helped lay the foundation for this role in her 2014 report, "A New England Food Vision". Under Amanda's leadership, Maine is ready to set a national example for how to build a sustainable, healthy, and just regional food system.
