 Unpack & Unwind

If you haven't booked your leaf peeping vacation yet, get on that pronto!   There are lots and lots of lodging choices in the area, but foliage season, though short, is a busy one so book your autumn stay now or get a jump on winter vacation plans.

There's a new place to stay located just outside of East Burke Village.  Kingdom Getaways offers pet friendly chalets with 3 bedrooms, fieldstone fireplaces, full kitchens, and a wraparound deck.  Check out the 2 bedroom poolhouse featuring a sauna and outdoor pool.

Burke Property Rentals is the perfect getaway for a large group or family.  Ideally located near the Bike Park and Kingdom Trails, these beautifully appointed homes sleep 7-14 people and feature spacious living rooms, full kitchens, and lots of biker amenities including storage and wash stations.

Tucked away just off the Mountain Road, Burke Sugar Shack offers a woodsy location and accommodations for up to 6 people.  Hit the trails from the front door and afterwards, light up the grill and enjoy the backyard view.   There's also free WiFi, Apple TV, and netflix for those modern comforts that are sometimes necessary.

Autumn Explorations!

Between the crisp air and colorful foliage, it's a great time for casual explorations or fast paced rides.  For downhill action, the Burke Mountain Bike Park is open through Columbus Day weekend.  Get your thrills in while you can!

Weather permitting, Kingdom Trails will be open until the end of the month.  Make time to check out the brand new Moose Haven Forest Trail in East Haven. Look for the KT Parking area at the East Haven Community Center.  And, remember Kingdom Trails isn't just for biking.  Head out on a trail run for a different way to enjoy the woods.

For a scenic drive, nothing beats the views from the Burke Mountain Toll Road which will be open until late October and offers amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains, now at their peak autumn colors.

Of course, fall is a great season for hiking and there are lots of trails in the area to check out including the popular Mt. Pisgah trails overlooking Lake Willoughby.  Nearby, the Mt. Hor trails offer great views and opportunities to connect to longer trails heading to Wheeler Mountain.  Just remember that it is the start of hunting season in the region so always wear something bright orange (and make sure the dog has on something orange, too).

A great way to casually check out the scenery is via kayak or canoe at Clyde River Recreation.  You're certain to have a fun, relaxing journey as did a 91 year old women and her family who posted this review on Trip Advisor: "My mom had never canoed before and was somewhat nervous about the whole experience. The folks at Clyde River were so awesome and it's an experience she and my family will never forget. Chris, especially, made sure she felt comfortable and safe in the canoe before we left for the launch site...It was beautiful! We swung on the rope swing (not my mom!) and found a very cool hammock to relax in!"

There's still time to get in some golfing and the Barton Golf
Club is just a short drive from Burke, offering a par 71 course and 18 holes.  One Trip Advisor review calls it a "Secret gem" while another reviewer writes: "Everything about this course is great! Price = affordable / staff = couldn't be nicer / layout= poor man's Jay Peak / I will play again for sure!!! Best part = it is not a stuffed shirt, stuck up course."

If you prefer things at a faster pace, book a guided ATV tour at NEK Adventures. The five stars and reviews on Trip Advisor say it all including this one loaded with exclamation points: "The countryside was spectacular...This was the most fun experience I've had in years! You won't be disappointed with the attentive service and the beauty of the region. 15 miles of awesomeness! We will be back for snowmobiling for sure! This company and experience was perfect!"

Whatever adventure(s) you choose, treat yourself to a great dinner afterwards at Juniper's at the Wildflower Inn.  Grab a table on the deck and take in the amazing views as you enjoy dinner choices like Icelandic Fish & Chips, Potato Gnocchi, or if it's Tuesday, have a Burger and a Pint for just $11.  And no worries if Juniper's is booked, just head right next door to the Spokeasy Lounge at the inn for dinner and drinks.
