Spotlight on First Grade
August and September have come and gone, and with the change comes the emergence of fall and cooler weather. Now that we have been at school for over a month, we have seen the amazing strides that first graders have made settling into classes and learning more than ever. At Vessels, the first grade team have been emphasizing reading, reading, and more reading. First grade is a BIG reading year and much time has been spent finding students' levels and working within the small group setting to support those that are struggling, while pushing those that are more advanced.

It is vital that first grade students know the 50 site words. Parents can help support their learning at home by clicking HERE . By the end of the year students should also be reading more complicated sentences like "He is baking a blue cake." Additionally, math instruction r evolves around addition and subtraction with the numbers 0-20. Math work will also focus on sequencing, place value, measurement, telling time, using graphs and knowing three dimensional shapes.

Please help support what we do at Vessels by checking homework when completed and asking your student what they are working on in class daily. Education is a gift that opens doors and the impact of what we do now, is forever. We need your help with supporting us at home. We can do much more together !

Thank you once again for your support!

We had a tremendously successful jog-a-thon this year! Together, we have raised over $40,000 making this year's jog-a-thon the most successful ever! It is because of you we can continue to fund field trips, put technology into the classrooms, and help support instruction through needed materials.

This year, we will post photos and articles of what your donations have helped to support. Our goal is to keep you informed of the way in which funds are being allocated all year.

Together there is no limit to what we can do!

Scholars Share Update !

Last year Vessels won a $20,000 grant to help support technology at the site. We are proud to say that the Chromebooks have been ordered and we are one step closer to having a Chrome cart at every grade level. Thanks to your help, we will have 72 more laptops to support instruction in the classroom!
This week in photos...We love our Bulldogs!

Do you need more math support at home?

Try AAA Math ...It's effective, broken down by grade level standard and it's free. AAA Math is another great way to supplement instruction and reinforce math knowledge.

Attention Vessels: Every Friday is Juice it Up day after school. Cost is $2 and $3 by the front gate.
