Greetings,
I was fortunate to recently attend two events which reinforced the magic of books and bookselling. As a member of the Board of Directors of the American Bookselling Association, I attended a think tank which was led by Harvard Business School
Professor Ryan Raffaelli
, who is studying independent bookselling. What was particularly interesting to me was the identification of two factors that make independent bookselling anomalous – 1) the technology itself, the book, while old, is very good and has proven itself valuable in the 21st century, and 2) what surrounds the book and its delivery to customers is a community, is connection, is art.

The second event, the New England Independent Booksellers Association trade show, hosted many talented authors. At the final luncheon we were fortunate to hear Andre Dubus III discuss his forthcoming book,
Gone So Long
, which you can
pre-order here
. (He will be visiting our Manchester store on December 8th). Although he touched on the book, his talk was mostly about how writing saved his life - from a street life of fighting all the time to a literary life. It was amazing.

It is good to be reminded of the power of writing, of books, of bookselling and the community of readers that makes it all worthwhile. There is a plethora of good books arriving on our shelves weekly – I hope you find time to peruse our selection. You will be rewarded!
Be well,
Chris Morrow

Melmoth is a spirit condemned to wander the earth seeking to befriend the lonely and the lost. Helen Franklin is a woman living in exile in Prague who feels its influence - and her own life starting to unravel. Cloaked in shadows and with a strong whiff of the Gothic, the author of
The Essex Serpent
has once again crafted a sumptuous tale that is about so much more than just keeping one awake at night.
— Charles Bottomley, Northshire Manchester Center
A dark, gothic jewel of a novel. Do you ever feel like you’re being followed? Are the shadows just a little too dark? Does something move in your peripheral vision? Best read in one sitting, just make sure you’re not alone and you have all the lights on. — Becky Doherty, Northshire Saratoga Springs
