Unpack & Unwind

There's no shortage of lodging around here and you'll find all kinds of choices from B&B's to campsites in the woods.  There are some amazing amenities to be found whether you want a gourmet chef's kitchen, bike wash station, acres of privacy or all of the above.

Enjoy 50 acres of land and direct access to the Kingdom Trails Kirby Connector at Heart Winds House, offering a whole house rental or private room option.  This amazing and artistically designed home offers comfort and sunlight all around.  The custom built home features a gourmet kitchen, sunroom, wrap around deck, entertainment loft and much more.

Stay in the heart of the Village of East Burke and walking distance to excellent dining and pubs at Hollyberry's B&B.  Two comfy guest rooms are offered and for breakfast, enjoy Holly's amazing homemade muffins, donuts and coffee cakes.  Save some time for porch sitting and people watching.

The Burke Mountain Campground is ready and waiting for you with 25 tent sites including 5 lean-to's.   Enjoy easy access to the Bike Park and Kingdom Trails plus campers are welcome to use the Burke Mountain Hotel pool and hot tub.

An amazing view of Willoughby gap awaits you at East Burke House.  You probably won't need to use the huge stone fireplace, but you'll love the old style ski house charm of this home that sleeps up to ten people.  Bring along the family chef to cook it up in the state of the art kitchen.  Among the many amenities are a laundry room and bike wash/repair station.

Deal of the Month

There are many unique offerings in the area and a summertime favorite is the Vermont Children's Theater located next to The WIldflower Inn on Darling Hill Road.  Here, kids in 5th grade to High School build confidence and learn to express their creativity through the art of performance.  This month, you can enjoy the shows they've been practicing since May and show your support for these young thespians.  And, it's a great deal with ticket prices of just $5-$10!

Performances this summer:

Disney's Winnie the Pooh (kids in 5th grade)  July 11th - 13th at  7pm and July 14th at 2pm

Elf The Musical JR.: (grades 5-8)  July 18th - 20th at 7pm and July 21st at 2pm

Newsies: (grades 9-12)  July 25th -27th at 7pm and July 28th at 2pm
Family Fun!

Family fun abounds in and around Burke.  You don't have to be an elite mountain biker to enjoy Kingdom Trails.  There's something for all levels of ability and a really fun way to get the kids out there is a visit to the Pump Track.  It's located near the KT Welcome Center in the village and there's also a newly built Chutes and Ladders skills trail. Of course, the friendly folks at KT are happy to help you find the right trails for your riding level.  If you're in need of a bike rental, check out East Burke Sports or the Village Sport Shop (trailside or downtown Lyndonville locations).  If you prefer a guided tour or just some mountain biking instruction, Kingdom Cycling & Experiences has you covered.  They offer a range of tours depending on your needs and wishes including introductory tours and gravel rides.

A unique way to experience the woods is via a guided ATV tour from NEK Adventures.  Scenic ATV tours are about two hours and include a guide, ATV's and helmets.  The minimum passenger age is 6 years old and tours include a maximum of 5 ATV's.  Book early - these tours are popular!

Of course, no visit to the country is complete without stopping to meet some farm critters.  The Mountain View Farm Animal Sanctuary is home to goats, donkeys, pigs and more.  Visitors are always welcome and you can expect to be greeted by barn cats, Lucy and Noodle.  Another must stop is Sanderson's Wooden Bowls, located just beyond the village.  Sam & Weeza are happy to invite you into the studio where they hand-turn beautiful wooden bowls among other creations.  Outside, you can visit their many goats and donkeys (including babies!) along with Princess, the mascot basset hound on duty.

Summer means fun in the water and sand.  There are several lakes and beaches within a 20 minute drive of Burke including Crystal Lake State Park, Brighton State Park in Island Pond and of course, majestic Lake Willoughby with beaches at the North and South Shores.  Clyde River Recreation offers boat rentals and self guided paddling tours of the river with canoes, kayaks, life jackets and shuttle service up the river provided.

Now sometimes it does rain here which just means a venture to the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium is in order.  Located in nearby St. Johnsbury, The museum features a butterfly house, wildflower table, bug art and a family exploration station among many other exhibits.  Planetarium shows are offered daily.

Of course, you've gotta keep everyone fueled up for all this exploring.  Start the day off at Cafe Lotti, grab a latte for the grown ups, a smoothie for the kiddos, breakfast goodies or maybe even eggs benedict and make your plans for the day.  For lunch, head on over to the NEK Country Store for generous sandwiches or grab a slice of pizza.  The kids will love the penny candy set up, too!   Naturally, you need some ice cream which is located conveniently across the street at   RubyLee's .  Just make sure you know the lingo
when asking for soft serve.  We call them creamees up here and of course, maple creamees are a favorite.

Among the many great dinner options is the Foggy Goggle Osteria.  There are plenty of kid friendly choices including burgers, Trout River pizza, fish & chips and delectable desserts like cannolis or key lime pie.

  Summer Fun Awaits!
