Spies to Receive Society of Interventional Radiology 2019 Gold Medal
The Society of Interventional Radiology has chosen James Spies, MD, MPH, chair and professor in the department of radiology, as the recipient of the 2019 Gold Medal, the society's highest honor. The Gold Medal is awarded to those who have rendered exceptional service to the field of interventional radiology. Spies will receive the award at the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting in March.
The Aspen Institute has named Matthew Biel, MD, chief of the division of child and adolescent psychiatry at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and an assistant professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine, as a member of the 2018 class of
Aspen Institute Ascend Fellows for his commitment to advancing opportunity and equity for low-income children and families.
Rebecca Katz, PhD, MPH, director of the GUMC Center for Global Health Science and Security, has been named a commissioner on a newly formed effort to identify global health opportunities and challenges. The "Lancet Commission on a synergistic approach to universal health coverage, health security, and health promotion" seeks to "define and systematically describe the current landscape of law that affects global health and safety."
