Project: Haven Harbour Yacht Services tackles storm-damaged Hunter
|
Haven Harbour Yacht Services technicians Tony Brilz and Bobby Reilly, with help from in-house Rigger Forrest Richards, are in the midst of repairing a Hunter 460 that sustained severe hull-side and interior damage from a Chesapeake Bay storm last spring.
The job, tentatively set to wrap-up by early April, has multiple components, including repairs to the hull, rub rail and decking, reconditioning of interior Corian countertops, stanchion rebeding, cabin sole panel replacement, as well as the installation of a new on-board VHF and the correction of communication between the vessel's chartplotter and autopilot systems. The project's final stages will include a hull-side paint job using Awlcraft Midnight Blue.
Stay tuned, as we will be publishing a complete project write-up in the coming months. In the meantime, learn more about Haven Harbour Yacht Services, our facilities and staff at havenharbour.com/service.

Local News: Area roads distinguished with national highway honor
|
Have you been driving on your way to Rock Hall and taken notice of the brown or Black-eyed Susan-covered "Chesapeake Country" highway signs? That is because those signs are markers of Maryland's nearly 20-year-old Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway network. Congress has recently approved the U.S. Department of Transportation's designation of the Maryland Chesapeake Country network as an All-American Road.
This "All-American" status is the highest designation any highway can be given within our nation's scenic highway network – and Chesapeake Country is among 48 other new routes nationwide to be designated this year. The event marks the first time new roads have been added to the National Scenic Byways Program in over 10 years.
The original Maryland byway consisted of several routes, but was largely comprised of MD-20 and MD-213, portions of MD-445 and US-50/301, as well as select county roads; connecting Chesapeake City, Wye Mills and heritage landmarks found everywhere in between. Now, these routes serve as an integral part of over 400 total miles of public roadway from Chesapeake City to Smith Island – traversing eight of the Eastern Shore's nine counties, and helping link our region's cultural, historical and recreational centers – all apart of the new Chesapeake Country All-American Road.
Rock Hall plays an important role in this network's journey up and down the Shore, with both Rock Hall Avenue (passing by Haven Harbour Marina) and S. Main Street carrying the scenic roadway to terminuses at Gratitude and Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge.

As previously mentioned, our shrinkwrap recycling policies have changed effective this year. As part of a new region-wide initiative, all vessels that have requested for their shrinkwrap to be removed by Haven Harbour Yacht Services will have a $15 dollar recycling bag fee charged to their spring commissioning work order. DIYers will need to buy the $15 recycling bag from one of our marine stores in order to dispose of any removed shrinkwrap. Boats larger than 35 feet may require two bags.
